Thank you, MaryElizabeth, for good reading!
No, I don't think the noise is excessive, however some technical adjustments are needed:
1. The volume at 81 dB is too low, 89 dB is the target, please add some 8 dB.
2. The silence at the end is too short, 5 sec. needed. If needed, :help: help is here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Editing_Audio :)
3. Sorry, you will need to add the proper intro to the recording: "Chapter [number] of Stories Worth Rereading...", etc., as directed in the first post :(

Perfect! Thank you so much! Now the volume is a bit too high at 93 dB, but I'll let it pass, PL OK

Haha! I probably was trying to hard to compensate by speaking more loudly even with raising the db! ;)

Is there a way I can check the db myself? I know how to raise and lower it, but it would help to know my range.

I always check my volume by running all my recordings through Checker before uploading. This is a program made specifically for LV and it is very helpful. If your file 'passes' you know everything is OK, whereas if it doesn't it will tell you what's wrong (i.e background noise, volume problems) You can download this program here: http://cgjennings.ca/checker/
I love it! Let me know what you think of it or if you need help. :D

Or if you'd rather check your volume some other way, there are a number of suggestions here: http://forum.librivox.org/viewtopic.php?p=6427#p6430
Scroll down to where it talks about volume. :)
