Ah, OK. I've put it in this one. Check back soon to see if there are any proof-listening notes :).

Also, am I right that you would like to be credited as Judi Mason in the catalogue? Usually it's best to use whichever name you used in the recording for "Read by..." as this is how listeners will search for you. We can also link to a personal web page if you wish.

Here is your personal catalogue page: http://librivox.org/reader/10756. The reader section details are very useful for keeping track of the sections you have claimed and their proof-listening status. You can access it by right-clicking your name in the Magic Window and opening in a new tab. Many people also bookmark/favorite the page in their browser.

A Little Journey
Ray Bradbury 1920-2012
gutenberg.org ebook
19:03
18.3mb
This is my first recording.

Judi Mason
7
0:00 Intro needs to start with title of story and author before not after "This is a Libri..."
18:56 Outro should include author's name after title
Only 5s of silence needed at file end
File is stereo and should be mono.
Volume is very high (102dB) and needs to be amplified by -13dB to have the recommended 89dB volume.

Nice read.

Thanks, Dave. I have taken a look at this file, and it seems that one channel is actually much louder than the other. So, as Judi is just starting out, I will give her step-by-step instructions on how to deal with this.

What I suggest you do, Judi, is first to change the stereo file to mono in Audacity, and then delete the second track. This is how you do it:
  1. At the left-hand side of the track, there is a triangle next to the name of the file. Click it, and a menu will open up. Click "Split Stereo to Mono".
  2. Now you can delete the lower track, which is actually much louder than the top track: with the cursor on the lower track, click Tracks | Remove Tracks, and hey presto, you will be left with just the one mono track.
  3. The remaining track is still too loud, so select all (Ctrl+A) and click Effect | Amplify and type -8 in the Amplification box. Click OK. This will bring the volume down to 89dB.
  4. Now export your MP3 again, using the same file name, and reupload.
For future recordings, make sure that you are recording in mono. Click Edit | Preferences | Devices and under 'Recording', make sure that 1 (Mono) is selected.

I made the changes.
However: this story was recorded in mono. There was only one track recorded. All the settings were correct. I double checked them and clicked on all the correct buttons and saved again and re-exported. Watched the Phil C tutorial and in Export options, the "stereo" button was selected. In the written tutorial in the wiki, the selection "joint stereo" was specifically selected. So I re-exported under "joint stereo". Ran it through the checker and it still comes up as stereo. Please note, under Export options, there is no mono option. Just stereo and joint stereo.

Not sure how to solve this.

Volume is a tad high (92.6dB) and needs to be amplified by -3, otherwise pl ok.

Finally got it to upload in mono, passed the checker.
I credit an angel named Sonia, who has helped me all day long and she finally figured out that the recording was not centered.

A Little Journey by Ray Bradbury.
Thank you for your patience.

Well, well! That's an explanation I wouldn't have thought of! My thanks added to Sonia. I was a bit baffled, as I have never come across that before. I have added it to the Wiki in case it ever crops up again. Thank you for sorting it out :).
