PL Notes for Section 4

there are some volume changes at the intro--maybe not that serious, but if while you're editing you can even them out, that might be nice. other than that, mostly just pauses that can be edited out, + a couple of repeats.

~2.32 - 2.41 long pause
3.29-3.31 pause
~3.45-3.48 pause

at 7.07 "chagrin" is usually pronounced with a "sh"

11.12-11.23 long pause

~11.41-46 repeat of "And indeed he was amazed at.."

~14.30-14.33 pause

16.32-16.37 long-ish pause
~17.11- 17.14 pause

~17.45-50 repeat of "And he continued to gaze on the charms of the chief damsel"

18.19-18.23 long pause
19.51-19.54 pause with a small clicking
~21.41-22.00 very long pause

Thanks, but did you copy this directly from the uploader? It should be in lynnet's folder, and the name should be as you see in the first post, so it should look like this:

https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/thousand_nights_8_14_burton_128kb.mp3

I also need to know how long it is:)

Just wanted to step by real quick and tell you that I'm working on my section :) I'm still on recording though, so it might take me a little bit more time.

PL notes for section 12:

these are really minor things, but I noted them in case you'd want to edit them.

audible swallowing noise at 15.48 and at 18.56
at 16.21-22 a tiny click

otherwise, a wonderful reading. well done!

PL notes for section 14:
this recording as lots of momentum and energy. it's a little quiet though-- only 84.9db instead of closer to 89. amplifying by 4 or 5 should do it.

I also noticed a little jingling background nose here and there, but I don't think it distracts too much. I have made what looks like a lot of notes, and there were several spots where it was hard to decide whether pronunciation or reading speed warranted a note, so I only included the imstances that really sounded out of place or distracting, made things hard to understand, or seemed to be the wrong word altogether.

0:12 stumble/repeat on "visit"

1.10 mumbling on "avoucheth" -- I think this should probably be similar to the word "vouch," as in to vouch for someone. so "a-vouch-eth"

2:10 mumble on "Isles" --it sounds like "aires" almost, to me.

~3.20 has "lay me in depsight" instead of "lay me in despight"

~3.48 stumble/hesitation at ""Oft times Mischance..."

~3.52 repeat of "straiten"

~4.12 it should be "auspicious King" and not "suspicious King"

4.29 a mumble at "after....." the words "after which" aren't very clear

~4.35 extra word at "rooted out from the her heart" -- "the" can be removed

4.40-4.42 pause and a repeat at "she cried out"

~4.49 "whoso sueth" sounds pretty mushed together/slurred

5.26 repeat/stumble "charge of har- harlotry,"

~5.54 mumble/hesitation/repeat on "Then she recited"

6.03 repeat and an extra "and" at "I and I come"

~6.09 repeat/stumble "wrath redo- redoubled"

~6.17 repeat/mumbling "thou how- hast sinned"

~6.19 repeat on "'Twas"

6.57 extra word in "cried out to her last eunuchs," -- "last" should be removed

7.12 extra word "Drag this to ill-omened beldam" -- "to" should be removed

7.18 hissing, long S hesitation on "So far.."

7.22 mumbling at "direction of the desert"

7.30 hesitation on "of aff- affliction"

7.43 hesitation/repeat on "case"

~7.53 repeat at "suffice thee- thee"

8:10 stumble on "perilous"

8.24 mumbling at "Zephyr of Morn" (zyphyr is most commonly pronounced "zeff-er")

~8.52 again, should be "auspicious King" and not "suspicious King"

~8.57 the line "sure of winning reunion" is indistinct/mumbly

9.17 long-ish pause at "graven ......... with talismans"

~9.26 repeat "boys were disp- disputing"

~10.16 stumble/repeat "knowest no- not their properties"

~10.36 repeat "our father wrought in- an hundred- wrought in- an"

12.14 stumble at "Will ye hearken"

~12.41 repeat "hended- hending the rod in hand"

~13.06 stumble/repeat at "he hath flown up"

~13.13 repeat "Then they sought for him- sought for him"

~13.43 repeat at "saw him not,"

13.53 repeat at "so that what"

14.19-21 pause could be edited out

14.41 stumble at "against whom"

~16.31 mumbling on "were but of lost folk"

~17.18 repeat at "thou hast gotten"

~17.25 stumbling/repeats on "what I shall say to thee"

~17.54 repeat "present himself-- himself"

19.26 repeat/hestitation on "s--since her desertion"

~19.40 stumbling on "whilst the flies fed their fill" (that's quite a tongue-twistery phrase!)

~20.46 repeat "the day-- dawn of day"

and lastly, the final 5-second silence is more like 15 seconds total, and I hear a cough near the end too. that can be trimmed out.

Can I try my hand at section 17? I just finished my one minute test and I'd like to go under the librivox cataloge as Aria Liu.

An overview of how Librivox works can be found here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/How_LibriVox_Works

There are numerous ways to volunteer here. An important one is proof-listening, which consists of checking someone's recording for errors. If you'd like to give that a try, you can find lots of information here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Guide_for_Proof-listeners

Also to point out to professional (or aspiring) Voice Over artists, all our recordings are put back into the public domain which means sometimes they are sold on ebay, etc. Have a look at this page which describes our Public Domain policy: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Copyright_and_Public_Domain
