Twinkle and Chubbins; Their Astonishing Adventures in Nature-Fairyland by L. Frank Baum (1856 - 1919).

This project is now in the catalogue. All audio files can be found on our catalogue page:
https://librivox.org/twinkle-and-chubbins-their-astonishing-adventures-in-nature-fairyland-by-l-frank-baum/

Twinkle is a little girl who often finds herself caught up in fantastic adventures. Whether it be being put on trial by angry woodchucks, raising a hateful baby crow, visiting a town full of talking prairie dogs, finding magical turtles, meeting strange pun-based creatures, or stumbling upon a country of sugar people, she never knows what she'll encounter next!

First published as a series of six short chapter books in 1905 under the pen name Laura Bancroft, L. Frank Baum's The Twinkle Tales was collected into one collection titled Twinkle and Chubbins; Their Astonishing Adventures in Nature-Fairyland in 1911. The title is a misnomer, as Chubbins (Twinkle's friend) appears in only two stories and few are set in "Nature-Fairyland." Policeman Bluejay, the sequel to these stories, was published in 1907. 1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/28552
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Another L. Frank Baum project! (Last project I will pitch for a while)

I thought the short chapter lengths in this project would make it a good one to direct newbies to, plus it's a cute set of stories, though I think the crow might be an unsavory African American caricature...he's named Jim Crow...yikes...

Not so soon as I'd hoped but it's there now! :)

I edited the intro to say "Section number" at the very start to make it easier for listeners to know where they are in the book. After saying the disclaimer then I left it as "Chapter" to introduce the chapter title. You can edit the intro info in the first post if you want the reader to say something like "Mr. Woodchuck Chapter 3 - Mr. Woodchuck scolds Twinkle" for the subsequent chapters of a character. One way to put it would be to read the chapter info from the MW.

And I changed the outro to "Section number" also.

I shortened the file name, the template put the whole thing in there and it's not necessary and waaaaaaay too long. I added the _128kb requirement to the end of it.

I removed the ID3 tag info.

I think that's it. If I forgot anything or you need something different please let me know.

Have fun! :)
Bev

For the stories in Prarie [sic] dog town, I see that it is spelt that way in the text but the illustration at the beginning spells it correctly as Prairie. Can we assume it is a typo in the text and change the MW titles to read "Prairie"? I'm just imagining the error reports we will get.

I edited the first post intro to replace [Chapter] with [Section Title] so people know what to say.

I'll leave it here another day or so in hopes of attracting a DPL.

It's time to move this into Readers Wanted. I'm surprised we didn't have a DPL volunteer yet.

Now that there are files to listen to you can post an advertisement in the Listeners Wanted forum and I'll sticky it.
