This project is now complete. All the files can be downloaded from our catalogue: http://librivox.org/wuthering-heights-by-emily-bronte/

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë .

Summary:
A tale of passion set in the bleak Yorkshire moors in mid 19thC, far from the Victorian uprightness, Wuthering Heights depicts the mutual love of Catherine and Heathcliff till destruction rends the narration; yet cruelty is only to be met with forgiveness in the following generations. Romantic, impassioned and wild, it is also a dark journey in the human soul.

(Summary by Lady Maria).
  1. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
Target completion date of this project: June 2007 changed to 17th December 2007 – but try to send your recordings as soon as you can. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it’ll go back to the pool. There’s no shame in this; we’re all volunteers and things happen.
  4. Where do I find the text?
    Gutenberg e-text: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/768
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

    (BC admin link)
  6. BEFORE recording:
    Please check the Recording Notes:
    http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430

    Set your recording software to:
    Bit Rate: 128 kbps
    Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
  7. DURING recording:
Make sure you add this to the beginning and end of your recording:
    Start of recording (Intro)
    • "Chapter ## of Wuthering Heights. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
    • If you wish, say:
      "Recording by [your name]"
    • Say:
"Wuthering Heights, by Emily Brontë. [Chapter]"

    End of recording
    • At the end of the section, say:
      End of [Chapter]"
      If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Wuthering Heights, by Emily Brontë."

Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of your recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes!

Also, please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!
  8. AFTER recording:
    Save files as
    128 kbps MP3
wutheringheights_##_bronte.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is your section number. (wutheringheights_01_bronte.mp3)

    ID3 V2 tags
(To find out more about ID3 tags, go to our wiki: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/WhatIsID3)
Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use – if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!

    Title: Chapter ##
    Artist: Emily Brontë
    Album: Wuthering Heights

Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file.
Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader (when your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread):
      http://upload.librivox.org
      Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: ez - ezwa
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.
Any questions?
Please post below or PM me.

Edit: I guess I'll claim the first chapter... Also, I appeal to English readers for nice renditions of Yorkshire accents! Especially Joseph if you follow my drift...

Excellent Maria! (I won't put that silly grinning face on here, but I really want to!)

I would love to MC for you, but I am not MCing yet, I'm about to move and I haven't the time at the moment. I will however be claiming a chapter to read, and maybe even giving that broad Yorkshire a try (that way everyone can have a really good laugh.)

Best,
Fedra

Not to worry about the MCing, I was just putting up your name because you seemed fond of the book... good luck with the moving by the way! I'll just wait till some admin of unerring judgement takes up the thread.

Rah, I can't wait to hear that Yorkshire accent. Joseph is prevalent in the whole novel so we'll have lots of fun honing our skills!

Maria, I'll MC this. I really enjoyed the book many years ago.

I'll enter the details in the database tomorrow evening (GMT+1), add the magic window in the first thread and send you all the info you'll need to edit it.

I take it you read just about everything about BCing.

Can you ftp (or do you want to learn how to) or do you have enough server space to host the files as they come?

A+,
Ezwa

To everybody claiming their chapters: of course you may! Thanks for the collaboration!

Thanks Ezwa for the MCing. No, I don't have server space & I'm not sure I know what ftp means... I'm always keen to learn though. Yep I've read all the literature about BCing, that doesn't mean I'll be able to do it perfectly from the first, things need to be checked... I promise I'll do my best. First off I'll check the info about editing you sent me. Then yes it'll be great if you (or anybody) could either provide server space or guide me on that ftp.

Bises

P.S.: lovely, there's a link that comes up on ftp, which I'll follow when I've the time. Also just replied to the pm.

Hmm I completed mine:
http://download.yousendit.com/F4C2787019220A07

The ventilator of my laptop saw fit to get roaring at 1:12 in the recording so the background noise shall have to be edited for 5 seconds starting from that point.

I'll edit the magic box when I hit on a final solution for the server space.

I'd love to do a chapter of this book, I do so love it!

I won't, however, commit until I try out my recording software, as I haven't done a recording to date.

I will be back once I have worked out the recording stuff.

Asy, whenever you feel ready, just be quick about it, it seems they're selling like muffins!

Sadclown & fae, the chapters are all yours!

Ezwa: I'll reply to your pm directly. Thing is, I've done the ftp, the only glitch is that I don't know where to look for the url... for the mo I'll try make do with the one you pm'd me, but there must be a way to actually see the url, no? I'm so untechy.

Here's the ftp url, since I added my chapter to the WutheringHeights folder... apparently it's got a typo or sth (of course, as it's done on guesswork... ) http://www.studioae.com/LibriVox/WutheringHeights/wutheringheights_01_bronte.mp3

Maria,

I edited your post to add a space before the URL, but you can see 'it' doesn't like the special character ë, as the underlined link stops there.

I can't see anything else odd about the URL. Perhaps try changing the file name to an ordinary e.
