Saints and Heroes Since the Middle Ages Volume 2 by George Hodges (1856 - 1919).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/saints-and-heroes-since-the-middle-ages-volume-2-by-george-hodges/

In this second volume, Hodges uses stories of the lives of fourteen well-known saints and heroes of the faith to continue the history of the church from the end of the Reformation through the 1700s. These stories recount their lives and sacrifices for the faith. These saints and heroes include: Luther, More, Loyola, Cranmer, Calvin, Knox, Coligny, William the Silent, Brewster, Laud, Cromwell, Bunyan, Fox, and Wesley. Appropriate and beneficial for children and adults! ( Maggie Travers)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/saintsheroessinc00hodg
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity has much improved noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.
      Save files as
      128 kbps MP3
      saintsandheroes2_##_hodges_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. saintsandheroes2_01_hodges_128kb.mp3)
    9. Example ID3 V2 tags
(To find out more about ID3 tags, go to our wiki: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/What_is_ID3)
Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use – if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!
      Artist: George Hodges
      Title: ## - [Section title]
Album: Saints and Heroes Since the Middle Ages Volume 2

Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.
Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
      • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader
        Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
      • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: icequeen
      • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
      • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

      Any questions?
      Please post below

I shortened the filename to saintsandheroes2, if that's okay. I would like to also DPL this project!

OK, your MW is ready, I have you in as DPL, and it is fine to shorten the file names that the template generator automatically makes. It makes the readers lives, and mine, much easier! :D

May i claim Section 1 Luther.

Just to be clear, is there anything i need to say specifically for the beginning the book (like at the end) or follow instructions on point 7.

Also at the end do i say "End of Chapter 1" or "End of Luther 1483-1546 "
"Temet Nosce"

It's yours! Welcome :)

You will follow point 7 in the first post saying: "Chapter 1 of Saints and Heroes Since the Middle Ages Volume 2. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"

"Saints and Heroes Since the Middle Ages Volume 2, by George Hodges. Chapter 1 Luther 1483-1546"

END of recording
"End of Chapter 1"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"

Hi,

I've recorded section 8 (not yet claimed) about William the Silent. Let's see if that's good enough because I could spend even more hours fixing stuff but that's probably not the point.

Sanja,
I appreciate your enthusiasm, but there is a process we use at Librivox for work on projects...just as you have done on King Arthur project. First, you request an unassigned section. Once the BC (book coordinator) assigns the section to you, then you may record it and post the file with the time length. The BC will post the link and time in the MW (Magic Window) and mark it ready to be PLed (proof listened). The DPL (dedicated proof listener) for the project will check and listen to the file and mark it in the MW whether it is OK or needs editing. If it needs editing, the reader will correct the issues and reupload the corrected file, post the new file and time. The DPL will check the new file. If all is okay, it will be marked so in the MW.

We use this process to keep from problems, confusion, etc. Since this is your first file, and the section is unassigned, I will use it this time. But please use the right process in the future. Thank you!

I'll PL this file soon and will post if it's okay or needs more editing :)

Thanks, Maggie - I appreciate your time and the information in your reply!

I wasn't sure whether I should post or even record it anyway but I wanted to give it a real try. Don't worry - if it sounds bad or anything, we can just throw that file away and I'll do it again completely.

I will try to PL this within the next few days. With Thanksgiving Day celebrations and my oldest's 16th birthday in a few days...real life has slowed down my PLing ;)

No worries, I'm currently too busy again to do anything about it anyway - also congrats, 16 - that's awesome.

Mine's just 3.5 years old. Sometimes time's just not passing. But then suddenly they're 16.

There is just one issue with this file. At the end, you need to remove "End of Saints and Heroes Since the Middle Ages Volume 2, by George Hodges. " since your chapter is not the last chapter of the book. Keep the ending "End of Chapter 8. Recorded by Sanja" followed by 5 seconds of silence.

Otherwise, it is PL OK :)

Yeah, I noticed that "at the end of the book" means the actual book (a'duh) when I started the other recording - that part's deleted now.

New duration: 20:46

Thank you!
