The Chronicles of Newgate Vol 1 by Arthur Griffiths (1838 - 1908).
All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/the-chronicles-of-newgate-vol-1-by-arthur-griffiths/

Good against evil; right versus wrong; the judicial system against the criminal world. The struggle is as old as mankind. Sometimes the lines are blurred as the 'good' punish the 'bad' - the warriors against crime have resorted not only to killing wrong-doers, but additionally subjecting them to "starvation or the withholding of fluid, by drowning, stoning, impaling or by exposing the wretched victims to the stings of insects or snakes." Newgate Prison was one of the most famous - or infamous - prisons in England from the middle ages until the nineteenth century. Griffiths, a prison administrator, takes us inside where we discover "man's inhumanity to man". ( Lynne Thompson)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/50345
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

We'll need the number of sections to set this up - any rough idea?
Cheers,
Ava.

I've set this up for you, everything looks good I think.

As you have two introductions, your 12 sections start from 1, if you want them to start from 0 after all, just let me know.
Cheers,
Ava.

And we're off!

I've marked it PL OK. One comment: the introduction doesn't explicitly say 'section 1', but I'm assuming that that's okay because it's the general introduction rather than a chapter per se. If you'd like to alter it, just let me know and I'll spot check it!

I wondered about that myself... Obviously I decided against it, but do you think it would sound better? I could add it. :hmm:

I don't think it's necessary. You did give it some thought, and it's the introduction, so it's okay. I just thought it's the DPL's job to look for these things. :D
