The Lives of the Most Excellent Italian Painters, Sculptors, and Architects, from Cimabue to Our Times, or Le Vite de' più eccellenti pittori, scultori, e architettori da Cimabue insino a' tempi nostri, as it was originally known in Italian, is a series of artist biographies written by 16th-century Italian painter and architect Giorgio Vasari, which is considered "perhaps the most famous, and even today the most-read work of the older literature of art", "some of the Italian Renaissance's most influential writing on art", and "the first important book on art history". The title is often abridged to the Vite or the Lives. ( Wikipedia)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/28421
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: translatedtext

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

      Pronunciation guide:

      Coming soon!

A note on abbreviations. The abbreviation "S." should be read in the following ways:
Saint if name is English. (example: Saint John)
Santa if name is Italian and feminine. (ex: Santa Margherita)
Sant if name is Italian and begins with a vowel (masc or fem). (ex: Sant'Ilario)
Santo if name is Italian, masculine, and starts with ST. (ex: Santo Stefano) (There are other cases where this should be used--Z or S+any consonant--but they are rare)
San for any other Italian masculine name (ex: San Francesco)
If you're not sure, feel free to ask. :)

Hi Mary. I'll MC again. Can you fill in the new project template and get a project code, please. That saves me from having to enter all the info manually into the database. Thanks!

Oh, ok, cool. Will do. Sorry, I thought that using the stuff from the last project would be easier, but I guess I didn't think about this.

Having a busy morning. Hope to get to it in a few hours, but will do tomorrow at the latest!

I'm recording, but don't quite know what to do with the "Messer"s in the text (for instance "Messer Bindo Altoviti")? Is it... mister? :hmm: Or something else? :)

Thanks for asking. :) It's an old Italian title, short for "messere." Pronounced something like "mess-AIR." Hope that helps!
