Historical Tales, Volume VII: Spanish by Charles Morris (1833 - 1922).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/historical-tales-volume-vii-spanish-by-charles-morris/
Volume VII of a series containing anecdotes and stories, some well-known, others less so, of particular countries. This seventh volume covers the history of Spain from before the Moorish conquest to the loss of overseas territories at the end of the 19th century, describing history for children and young adults in an exciting and novel manner. ( Kalynda)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.mainlesson.com/display.php?author=morris&book=spanish&story=_contents
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

You're set up.

This is the first time you've used the new cataloging system, correct?

Detailed Instructions for accessing the Magic Window can be found in the document linked below:
Instructions for Soloists

If you prefer audiovisual aid, here's a video showing how to use the Magic Window (read the above document first - it has the information on how to log in for the first time, which this does not have):
Magic Windows / Section Compiler: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOP4tcr1kl8

You no longer have to enter the section number in the Magic Window section title. I've entered the first chapter for you as an example. You can fill in the rest.

A couple other changes from the old way:

- You do not need to enter ID tags. The cataloging system pulls the needed info from the Magic Window and project's database entry.

- We need to add "_128kb" to the end of the file names now, so Archive derives the files correctly. I've fixed this in your sample file name. I've also shortened it to how you had it in previous projects.

- You can clean up the intro/outro wording to fit your project better, if you like. The template spits out what it thinks from what you entered as the project name, but this might not be exactly as you wish. (You can say "section" instead of "chapter" for example.)

Holler if you have any questions!

Hi!
I thought I'd stop by to help PL a bit.

Lovely job!

You are picking up some 'plosives. Please take a look at your mic placement and make sure it's positioned just out of range of your breath. It's not too distracting but something to keep in mind for future recordings.

Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6.
Please trim opening silence. Should be 0.5-1.0 seconds.
Please trim ending silence. It only needs to be 5 seconds. You are at almost 6 now and there are a couple of blips of noise in it so when those are cut you will come in closer to 5 seconds.

All chapters are coming in between 88.2 and 91.7. MP3Gain shows some clipping on chapter 9 but I'll get there in a day or so and let you know if I hear any distortion.

Be well,
Linny

Chapter 7
Please trim ending silence. There are a few bits of noise and it's slightly over 5 seconds in duration.

Chapter 9
I don't hear any distortion from the clipping noted in MP3Gain.
5:32 duplicate "warning of the approach of the Musilum foe was quickly brought"
The ending silence is a bit short.

Chapters 10 and 11:
Please trim the opening silence to 0.5 to 1 second.

Chapter 12:
18:18 “And thus they went, fugitive and pursuer, until the ships of the Moors were at hand, when the Cid, finding that he could not reach the Moorish king with his sword, flung the weapon fiercely at him, striking him between the shoulders.” I hear “soldiers”
21:30 Background noise (sounds like something fell)

Chapters 13, 14, and 15:
PL ok

Since I PLed here, I have been working with some BCs which are also MCs and it seems the opening and ending silence isn't as carved in stone as I thought. As such all but chapters 9 and 12 are PL ok! :D
