"To celebrate 350 years of scientific publishing, we are inviting our readers to tell us about their favourite papers from the Royal Society archive. Today Baylor Fox-Kemper, Assistant Professor of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences at Brown University and member of the Editorial Board of Philosophical Transactions A, tells us about a controversial paper....The story of the great astronomer Halley’s 1686 paper in Philosophical Transactions...The overused phrase “seminal contribution” pales....

Hi, I've recorded my sections, but stumbled upon this: τὸ πᾶν
I have no idea how to say it or what language it is, help?

Kristin, Rapunzelina put me onto Google translate for short Greek passages like that. I just tried it and the expression is translated as "everything". It is transliterated as "tó pán".
Best,
Barbara
If you translate from Greek to Greek you can click on a loudspeaker icon to have a Greek voice read it to you.
Yeah, I did that too, but I wanted to check. I'll try to say it how google translate does, as it sounds nothing like "tó pán".barbara2 wrote:Kristingj wrote:Hi, I've recorded my sections, but stumbled upon this: τὸ πᾶν

There is a site howjsay.com for English pronunciation and I believe you can go to howjsaygreek or whatever language you are looking for, for short words or phrases like that. Of course, that does mean you have to know what language you are looking for Once you get a general idea of what it should sound like, just say it with conviction, and chances are no one will query it (I've managed all manner of languages that way).Kristingj wrote:Yeah, I did that too, but I wanted to check. It has that worrying extra syllable...
It's early morning here, and I misread Lynnet's sig as "Pronunciation is the thief of time".

If there are edits, please note that this was section 17
Obs... Then it has the wrong name in the tags as well...Lynnet wrote:Thank you, Kristin.Kristingj wrote:Here is chapter 15, at 06:13. I understood nothing of what I just read, so just... tell me if I got anything wrong:P

The only edit needed is to the file name. I'm marking it as "see PL notes" but there's nothing from the reading itself that needs updated.Kristingj wrote:Here is chapter 15, at 06:13. I understood nothing of what I just read, so just... tell me if I got anything wrong:P
