Ok here are both my previous recordings, with the footnotes erased. I have not changed anything else. I think the transition goes smoothly even with the cut-out parts. But you can check again, if you like.

The recording time has changed of course now:
5:58 min.: https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/strangestoriesvol1_03_pu_128kb.mp3
6:29 min.: https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/strangestoriesvol1_04_pu_128kb.mp3

I kept the old files as well, in case you think with the footnotes it was better after all.

Thank you. Not going back to footnotes!
This is exactly how the different parts of the dramatic reads are fitted together, or how you get rid of mistakes - read the line correctly and cut out the bad bit.

Thank you and I liked your sound effect. Nice touch.
I'm marking as PL-OK

A comment for future reference:
It sounds like you recorded the intro and the story at 2 different times. The intro sounds quite a bit louder than the story if you listen to it. Just be aware of that when recording next time.

There are ways that you can fix this after recording:
1) You can see it - The taller the waves in audacity, the higher the volume. If you make the waveform graph smaller (zoom out) the difference in heights becomes more visible.
If you use ReplayGain to check your volume then only select the specific area and do the "quieter" area separately. This is because ReplayGain makes the volume average over the whole recording. Not each little section.

A tip from MaryAnne ...
You can use Auphonic.com to do the "evening out" The site requires you to register, but then you can process 2 hours of audio each month for free. Use a loudness target of -20 to get to about 89 dB of volume.
I haven't tried it, but it sounds like a good idea.

Not sure if you've read any of the other posts, but ignore the Footnotes when reading.

Thank you.
Section 3 - PL OK
Section 4 - This is chapter 3 not chapter 4 This is because there is an introduction at Section 1.
There are 3 instances where you've said chapter 4. 2 in the introduction and "end of chapter 4" at the end.

I believe I really got this one right!
Yes you did
I've added in the 1/2 second at the beginning and deleted the footnote and uploaded the revised version, but nicely read.

argh, I thought I had it right. This is so confusing with the introduction ruining the chapter labelling LOL

Here it is again, with the corrected intro/outro:

PL OK.
I increased the space at the beginning to 1/2 second and re-uploaded the file.

And here is Planting a Pear Tree. I was extra careful with the chapter number this time ;)

Recording time: 3:38 min.

Not claiming any more for the moment, as I want to finish some other recordings first, but I will probably come back to this project before it's done.

PL OK  along with Ch 3 on the spot PL (and I've changed the section numbering, including file names to help avoid future confusion)

I just browsed through my sections and wondered what happened to the introduction... :?:

I understand you did it to avoid confusion with the filenames? In that case, it is possible to set the introduction as "section 0"; this way it is still in the beginning and the filenumbers are the section numbers.

Just sayin...

Hi,
The introduction is at the end - I think at 61. Sorry for the confusion, but you're right it has been done to avoid confusion with the file names. I tried to set it to 0,but don't know how but that is what it should be.
Sorry

This is one of the things you'll need your MC for

I prefer not to go into other's projects if it can be avoided - just tell MaryAnn that you want the introduction as section 0, she'll know what to do. It's not a big deal.
Cheers, Ava.
