Do we need to read the foot notes? If so do we read as they appear?

You can choose whether you include them or not.

This is meant to be listened to and it is up to the readers discretion as to include them or not. In the case of the discussion above the story had a footnote on the practice of foot binding that was unrelated to the story as a whole and went on for a good number of minutes (about a page of small printed text). In listening I'd forgotten about the story by the time the footnote came to an end. The translator has included a number of pointers about chinese culture that arise as a result of the story, but don't explain it. In one chapter (I think 1) there is a note at the end that explains the story in the context of chinese beliefs.

Hope this helps and thank you for your post Ava.

Oh thank you so much for updating this, it was hard to read from the scanned pages in the PDF.

I've updated the catalog record to point to the PG source, and also added it as an alternative source to the first post.

Nicely read. Thank you.
Your choice whether or not to leave the footnotes in, but I don't feel that they add anything to the story.

29m02 it is a FAST day (i.e. one goes without food); rather than feast day.

Here are the sections with the footnotes removed, and their new times:

https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/strangestoriesvol1_12_pu_128kb.mp3
(10:49)

https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/strangestoriesvol1_21_pu_128kb.mp3
(7:12)

I didn't put the foot-binding footnote at the end of the section, as I think it would seem like a complete non-sequitur. (There is a brief mention of a woman walking with difficulty at the start of the section, but this never comes up again and is not relevant to the plot.)
So little space, so much to say.

Section 15 is fixed, same time:

I left the footnotes in, mostly because I hate listening to myself and didn't want to go through the whole file again.

Thank you for this.
PL Comment:
The volume is too loud. Please can you reduce it to 89db.

Other comments (your choice as to fix or not)
2m47 - you've said "migrating". text has "mitIgating" (as in "mitigating circumstances")
The reading is very jerky. Are you able to listen through and improve the phrasing by reducing the gaps between words where necessary so that the story flows?

Linny will be doing the PL and BC stuff while I'm away from 4 August.

Thank you.
