Don't worry, I'm not going to claim a section in this book! Not with my accent. The contrast with all these siren-type dolls would too jarring.

My Fourth Form French teacher in 1980 said ... Scout's honour! ... that I "mangle the French language".

Just think, if La Perouse had not been a couple of weeks behind the First Fleet, we Aussies might be doing the sort of unspeakable things to the French language that we are currently doing to the English one.

P.S. If you grant me a ticket of leave (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e6/Ticket_of_Leave_Passport.jpg) on this, I promise to have a go at any English text which contains a bit of German. That is a sensible language, written as it is spoken, unlike French and English. Plus certain of its words make my wife ... she's of Irish extraction ... break up into belly-laughs. Those insurance policy words, for instance ... "Kraftfahrtversicherung".
