I would personally do it like this:

"...in the other: thus,
when y is x squared, dy over dx is 2x
when y is x cubed (or "to the third"), dy over dx is 3x squared.
when y is x to the 4th, dy over dx is 4x cubed (or "to the 3rd")."

thanks tricia.

i should also ask, before needing to do a major edit job: how should i distinguish dx² from (dx)².
currently have both recorded as dee ex squared and that seems....wrong

thanks

Section 3 PL OK.

About all I'd suggest for dx² vs (dx)² is maybe pausing a little such that they're distinguishable?

"d x squared" vs. "dx...squared"? :hmm:

That's the only thing I can think of... :hmm:

Edit: my dad suggested "dx squared" and "dx all squared"
