Chapter 27 is PL OK - I might wait for the other files and PL them in order, if they aren't too far away.

They are not far away! Indeed, they are here:P

28 - 27:27 - https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/ladiesparadise_28_zola_128kb.mp3
29 - 28:56 - https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/ladiesparadise_29_zola_128kb.mp3

(they should all be good to put in the mw, these are all files for the final PL, after all...)

Okay, all files present and accounted for, and only 6 left for Liz to PL.

Thanks, Liz, for those artwork links, but why vegetables? What search terms did you use?

And, Phil, please remove Section 35, which we are not including in this project (the text version we decided to use does not have an Afterward).

Oh, Paris markets and market stalls. Not suitable?

Here are some generic fabric pictures, but not very French, IMO:

And here are some with "lace" as the search term:

PL note for Section 28:

@10:25 "with a sharp voice, and wounding intentions" This should be pronounced "WOON-ding" as it relates to a wound (injury) not to something being "wound up" like a clock.

Section 29 PL note:

@10:30 there is a repeat, the second version is correct so the first just needs to be cut "happy in these (re)marks of consideration"

Section 30 PL notes:

@00:23 an editing glitch with what sounds like two tracks overlapping?
@06:10 mispronounced word "obstinacy" sounds like "obsti-nancy" - this is an optional fix, it is clear what is meant. The word appears correctly at 31:27, it may be possible to cut and paste?

Also, in case you haven't been following the thread, there's been some interesting discussion around the topic of watermarking solo projects to prevent commercialisation. You might find it relevant: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=70888

Been working on the cover. What do you ladies think of this, whose main theme is VANITY? And Kristin, make sure I get your name right. I can say "read by", or "solo by", whatever you want. Let me know.

I love it! Amazing collage!

As an aside though, I don't actually think the theme of the book is vanity? I'd say it's more about commercial exploitation. I've just finished Chapter 13, and it reminds me very strongly of the GFC and Wall Street Crash stories! (Not that I think you can make a graphic of commerce destroying people...)

Section 31 is PL OK.

I love it! And read by is fine:)

Theme vise the thought that comes to me is that thing of always wishing for more. More things, more money, more attention, always something more.

My take on it is that if women weren't so vain, they couldn't be exploited. Isn't controlling women through their lust for beautiful objects what Moreau talks about all the time? Isn't his "problem with Denise" that he can't control her by promising her money, power, or anything but his whole devoted self. And doesn't he capitulate in the end? He does. She wins, because she isn't motivated by vanity or outward beauty, but by devotion to principles and those she loves. So I say commerce doesn't destroy people. Lust and envy destroys people. I think that was at least part of Zola's message.

True! Nice summary, BTW! Did you want to mention in the summary at all the very authentic French pronunciation of the narrator? I have to say, I've been so impressed with all the French names and places and how Kristin just rolls them out effortlessly! Or it sounds that way to me, anyway, who did French to Year 10 at school nearly 30 years ago...
