COMPLETE A Cursory History of Swearing by J Sharman -ck
we have an orphan!

Hi,
I'm inclined to volunteer for Chapter 5 now.
However.
There's a real blooper by the author in the second to last paragraph of this chapter: he states that Edward VI is the child of Anne Boleyn. Big oops! As a matter of historical fact, as is very well known, he was the child of Jane Seymour. What is the Librivox policy on inline remarks by readers? I'd truly choke on this sentence if not permitted to add "comment by reader: Edward the VI-th was, in fact, the son of Jane Seymour, the third wife of king Henry the VIII-th", or something like that.
I am very grateful for your gracious guidance.

our policies say that readers dont get to add anything to the recordings. all these books with their mistakes and other strange notions are a product of their authors and of the time, and we just hope that the listeners understand them as such. almost all of our scientific books, including history, have been proven wrong at least in detail since 1922.
i see what you mean, though. we have been discussing this quite a few times, especially in the context of racism, when a reader of an otherwise perfectly good book suddenly has to read out racist jokes in chapter 14. it is annoying, but we decided to make a general rule to read our texts as they are and leave the research and/or judgment to the listener.
will you read chapter five anyway, even with the error in it?

Aha! Thank you so much for this clarification - it really does make perfect sense to have a blanket policy to stop us from peppering our readings with all sorts of ad-libs....
That said, it would seem ungracious to decline, wouldn't it? In for a penny....

PL note chapter 8 part 1:
In the intro it needs to be indicated that this is part one of chapter 8. The way to do that would be to say :
"Chapter [number] part 1 of A Cursory History of Swearing. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say:
"A Cursory History of Swearing, by Julian Sharman. [Chapter], Part 1."
At the end there needs to be an outro:
"End of chapter 8, part 1" before the 5 seconds of silence.
Everything else is great!
