I'm not doing this again (except on request) but I have done a more modulated version of The Putnam Tradition here. I hope this doesn't confuse things more at your end - it's only to give you a further choice. I really didn't know much what I was doing when I did it the first time. Good luck.

p. s. When will Charles Harness's The Rose be out of copyright? Just a thought.

Hi Tony,
Thank you for the new version of the Putnam Tradition and for The Game of the Rat. I will proof listen them soon. It was a hectic day.
I like the compressor. It does take a bit to play around with audacity and see what works best for you. Sometimes a move back a bit or off to the side of the microphone when I want to do a louder voice to keep it from being too drastically different from the rest. It is fun to experiment.
It could be a long time until The Rose is PD. It looks like a first publication date in 1953 and he died in 2005. Sometimes it is 95 years after publication or 70 years after the death of the author. It depends on how it was copyrighted and a bunch of other things. I like to leave it to Project Gutenberg to sort all that out. When it gets in there, then it will be good to go.
It looked like the Asses of Balaam is in Project Gutenberg if you do want to record it in the future.

Hi Tony,
I don't know what you mean but I added it to the MW now. I straightened out your two other stories. After a quick check, The Asses is extremely quiet--under 80. Can you try to amplify it? Maybe download MP3 Gain. I am having visitors this weekend for the holiday. I will proof listen Tuesday.
Thank you for this one!
Amy

I sent The Asses to Ruth in a kind of error after I'd had lots of problems she solved and I kind of thought it was hers. Which it wasn't. I think she said she'd send it to you; but, what the hell, you've got it now. I'm trying to work on the Compressor Effect because of all those highs (I'm really going to avoid that vocally from now on) but I haven't got it yet. Hence it's not possible to go too much higher without clipping. Will keep on experimenting. Have a nice weekend.

I've done my best with this (going fast in case I lose my connection) - there is some clipping but it's in keeping with an outraged and alien character. I've tried compressor but I confess I don't understand it. If you can do better please do. Hope it's okay for you.

Hi Amy,

Here's the gaslight sf story I mentioned previously, originally published in Cassell's Magazine, but scanned on the web via a Tasmainian newspaper archive.

Thanks, Tony. I have to catch up on proof listening tomorrow. Phil made some videos on using Audacity that are very helpful. Here:

I am sure you will get the hang of it soon. Don't despair.

Hi George,
All I can see wrong is your file name. It should be ssf053_twotimer_brown_gt_128kb. I will proof listen it tomorrow. If that is all that is needed I can change the filename.
Congratulations on your first recording!

Hi George,
I PLed Two Timer,
It had a few updates needed.
1. The opening silence needed to be reduced to 1 second.
2.It needed noise cleaning
3. Compressor to allow amplification because it was too quiet.
4. Amplification by 2.6 to bring it to 89 db
5. The intro did not need to be repeated before the second part so that at 3:44-4:04 was cut out
6. The end was reduced to 5 seconds of silence.
7. File name changed
I didn't want to overwhelm you with all this in a first recording so I made the updates.
It is something to watch out for in the next one.
Here is the updated file.

6:21.
I added it the the MW so you are all set.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks!
Amy

Thank you Amy.

I have just uploaded https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/ssf053_the_holes_around_mars_bixby_gt_128kb.mp3

I tried to follow the suggestions received for Two-timer. Any further suggestions will be definitely welcome.

Thanks again,
george

Hi George,
That's great. I am glad it helped. I will proof listen this one soon. It will be good. Mars is on everyone's mind, I think.
Thanks!
