The Life of St. Ignatius of Loyola by Frances Alice Forbes (1869 - 1936).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-life-of-st-ignatius-of-loyola-by-frances-alice-forbes/
Saint Ignatius of Loyola (1491– 1556) was a Spanish knight from a local Basque noble family, hermit, priest since 1537, and theologian, who founded the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and was its first Superior General. After being seriously wounded in the Battle of Pamplona in 1521, he underwent a spiritual conversion while in recovery. De Vita Christi by Ludolph of Saxony purportedly inspired Loyola to abandon his previous military life and devote himself to labour for God. He died in July 1556, was beatified by Pope Paul V in 1609, canonized by Pope Gregory XV in 1622, and declared patron of all spiritual retreats by Pope Pius XI in 1922. ( )
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.heritage-history.com/index.php?c=read&author=forbes&book=ignatius&story=_front
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Here is chapter 1 https://librivox.org/uploads/m8b1/lifeofstignatius_01_forbes_128kb.mp3
12:39 My voice has been very rough lately due to some medical problems but I never let a little thing like that stop me from having fun recording.
By the way, I really like this book! It is very well written and has a nice style that flows easily. Many people will really enjoy it when it is finished.

Sorry to be slow on this one . . . I'll get these sections done ASAP and probably take on more to get this book out ASAP.

Are you working on anything else right now?

Thanks!

No worries, Fred! Thanks for checking in!

I haven't started any other group projects since this one - the thought went through my head the other day, but I have been very busy in real life lately!

I've just recorded Chapter 5, but got carried away and decided to record Chapter 6 as well. This is such a compelling story! So, if you would like to sign me up for Chapter Six as well, I'll have these edited soon.

I was bit frustrated by the number of typographical errors in the text. Some were obvious, and some more questionable, so I'm not sure how well those parts turned out.

Hi Larry,

Of course you may have 6 ~ read as many as you would like!

I'm sorry about the typos! There is an archive scan which you can find here: https://archive.org/details/thelifeofloyola00forbuoft

It is a bit of a bright scan though!

I thought the version that I have linked would be easier for people to read from since it is typed out...
