I'm having a hard time matching sound quality, so let me know what you think. :)
Hi Esther - the sound is very different and there is quite a lot of background noise. Did you do noise removal on the original files? The sound quality was much better then. (If you did, what you need to do is to record the new lines, do the same post-processing on them that you did on the original file, then paste them back into the original file.)

Another possibility is that you have changed something in your setup that is causing electronic interference. For example, I have to unplug my laptop from charging while I record because the cables run next to my microphone and it creates interference - it isn't the fan because the laptop can be on, but the electric current creates problems. The background noise is constant, so it could be something like that. The solution is to turn off everything else in the room that you don't need!

Narration for Chapter 7 is PL OK!

Narration for Chapters 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 22 and 24 are PL OK, apart from the introduction which can be cut and pasted from Chapter 7.

Chapter 10:

@1:31 misread "UNhappiness" reverses the meaning of the sentence!
(Also please change the intro to the short version in this chapter.)

Chapter 15:

@4:45 you've skipped a few words, which changes the meaning "And Mary Vance."
(Also please change the intro to the short version in this chapter.)

I am really not sure. Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10, I have no consistency in sound quality. I can record in the same spot in the same room with the same microphone and nothing sounds the same. The sound changes even in ten minutes. :hmm: I'll try doing those over again and see what I can do. I always record with my laptop unplugged in a closet. :) I will look at them again and hopefully get closer to the original quality.

Rupert will record the Shirley lines soon--he recorded them in a really weird voice, and didn't believe it when I told him that Shirley was supposed to sound normal. :D

I read somewhere that Windows 10 reduces your mic volume so you need more amplification (which also amplifies noise). Apparently you need to go into your general computer settings and turn your mic recording volume up there as well as in Audacity? I'm a Mac user, so I'm just reporting what I've heard. Maybe play around with the settings?

Almost the exact opposite has happened--I have had to turn my microphone way down or it sounds like I'm shouting! I've tried different things, but not much has helped. I'll keep trying, though. Maybe something will work... :D

Okay, so I tried re-recording that line again for Chapter 31.

The disclaimer at the start is copied from Chapter 6, but the line is totally re-recorded. I think it sounds closer. :?

Yes, that's much better! I'll mark Ch 31 PL OK!

(I think given the sound difference, you probably won't be able to edit in single word changes - you'll need to re-record the whole sentence or phrase to keep the sound changes from being too jarring.

I think I may have found the solution. I don't remember what my setup was like when I did these, but I seem to have a significant echo on my new files. I solved it by recording with a blanket over my head. It's tricky, but it seems to have worked. See what you think:

Narration Ch 16:
@9:30 unclear word "subject"

Narration Ch 17:
@7:36 mispronounced "Gallipoli" it's a place name (and a famous one) so it needs to be corrected please. Should be "ga-LIP-o-lee"

Thanks for leaving 10 seconds of silence at the end of Ch 17! I think this might be a long one!
