It is difficult to tell, but there may not be a 0.5-1s silence at the beginning. How can I go about identifying a 0.5s silence?
I usually just listen if it's no more than 1 second of silence.
If you want to be very certain you can open the mp3 in Audacity.

No more than 1 second I can do. I thought I also had to check for less than 0.5 somehow...

at about 17:24:
"drops from the retort" is read as "drops of retort"

Notes on section 3 (some are nitpicks):

at about 2:30:
"and" is omitted.
at about 8:56:
"inestimable" is read as "inestimal"
at about 11:15:
"properties of bodies" is read as "processes of bodies"
at about 12:03:
"secret of making it" is read as "secret for making it"
at about 13:16:
"M. Geoffroy" is read as "Mr. Geoffrey". I am not sure if M. used to be used as "Mr." so this may actually be correct....

There are almost 20 seconds of silence at the end of the recording. This is probably a little long.

Another great reading! Awesome sound quality. Thank you!

I've opened up Section 1.
I've sent messages to the reader with no reply and our DPL mentioned that it is better to re-record than to edit.

Thanks!

Hi Laurence,

Would you please amplify the recording by 3 db? It's currently hitting 86 and my target is 89 db (±2).

Thanks,
