Little Masterpieces of American Wit and Humor Vol 1 by Thomas Lansing Masson (1866 - 1934).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/little-masterpieces-of-american-wit-and-humor-vol-1-by-thomas-lansing-masson/
Volume 1 of a ten volume collection of amusing tales, observations and anecdotes by America's greatest wordsmiths. This work includes selections by such household favorites as Mark Twain, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Benjamin Franklin and Washington Irving. ( Lynne Thompson)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/21196
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

      Our DPL is Gavenport!

I'll MC.

This is similar to the Wit & Humour of America series, I take it. :)

EDIT: Set up. I think the file name should be shortened:

littlemasterpiecesofamericanwitandhumor1

to any of the below:

littlemasterpieces1
americanwitandhumor1
witandhumor1

What do you think?

And would you want "various" as the author in the file name, or the editor's name, as it is now?
School fiction: David Blaize
America Exploration: The First Four Voyages of Amerigo Vespucci
Serial novel: The Wandering Jew

Possibly... sounds like it ought to be. I guess Americans are funny people :hmm: Yes, that was tongue in cheek, having lived here almost 20 years...
I did a quick search and it looks like a couple of the pieces have shown up in short story collections, but this book in its entirety isn't in the catalog. Vol. 2 has just appeared on Gutenberg, which is what drew my attention 8-)

You may want to shorten the file name... it's kind of long  but I wasn't sure what you'd want to leave out

Edit: OK, I cross-posted... will shorten the name to one you suggested!

Looks good so far.

Double quotes cause problems at Archive - Archive cuts off anything after the first double quote in ID tags. So use single quotes (apostrophes) instead. :)

You may, but please don't record it yet... It will probably not end up as section 58 once I've finished setting up the MW (don't ask... It's complicated  ... The order in the book isn't the same as the order in the index...). Little thing called work interrupted earlier but I'll be on the case after dinner!

Well, I already did, but that section is last in the MW and in the book. I won't upload it until you get the MW finished, though. Thanks! :D

Fun stuff!

Needing to intersperse with the heavier pieces.

If I may throw my hat into the ring early, I'd like several little clusters:

SECTIONS 6, 7, 8 - 12, 13, 14 - 28, 29

Glad to hear there are more volumes . . . .

It should be safe to upload now... I don't think I have any more re-ordering to do. Just adding the metadata.

Ooops. Guess I wasn't clear with my sections. Let me try this:

6, 7, 8
12, 13, 14
28, 29

That's eight sections. Sorry about the confusion.

I can always put you in for those other sections when you've finished this eight

Tricia,
Andrew V. Kelley (of section 51 fame) isn't in the database and I couldn't find him on Wikipedia... Still trying to hunt him down.

OK. Let me know if you come up with anything. If not, I'll enter him with no information. There are a lot of authors in the database that have no info. :)

Moving this to Readers Wanted! Ummm... Short works, I guess? If you want it in Books, let me know and I'll move it there instead.

I would like to claim #57: Music by the Choir, please (as well as the bit about Chicago afterward). I am new to the family and I am waiting for the OK on my 1 Minute Test, but I'm sure it's fine.
