A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs, 1917

Easy, swank, pulp reads about an omnipotent gentleman teleportet to mars, finding an outlandish society of ape-, tree- and lizardmen, red-, white-, yellowmen, brains on legs, strange bastions and curious apparatuses, where the strongest survives and women are needy beauties to be saved. With the language of that time that i love so much. How can something be so platitudeus and at the same time so imaginative and enthraling? Boys book for sure.

Oh, what fun! 07 for me please, "child raising on mars." I can hardly wait to find out about Martian child-rearing philosophy!

Stephan, your two projects sound delightful and I shall certainly claim something, as soon as I've recorded my other 5 or 6 outstanding things! :) I've never read any of this stuff - barely even heard of it, so it will be even more interesting.

Burroughs is trivial but fun (if you?re not a fem-bot).
War of the Worlds is just great and has more to it than you?d suppose. Science Fiction started off at that time and War of the Worlds is just another very typical title - there were douzens of other mars and invasion titles around it?s time. But Wells? book is especially beautifull.

I love the Barsoom series... and was excited to see this in Next Books. I would like to volunteer for Chapters 3, 4 & 5. I also agree that they should be done chronologically.

I've got Audacity and LAME on standby. Once you count me in I'll begin recording.

There you go: Chapter One

(English accent, I'm afraid ... where are these southern US gentleman readers?)

Chapter III: http://s53.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2VLOT41NGH6HE2FBO7HXTN3HFZ

A Princess of Mars - Chapter III. As this is my FIRST recording, please provide feedback on quality and consistency. If a southern accent is prefered I can do that (I grew up in Alabama).

The title seemed to be beyond the limit of ID3v1 (30), so I shortcutted the title a bit (the same as the filename.

Thank you both.

Shartzog, no big deal for me, but please stick to the naming convention of the book-managers. There is a certain workflow and some conventions, even here.
Perfect recording and wonderfully read - come on! - you?ve done this before!

(The nitpicker in me want to give you the tip: a camilla or peppermint tea helps against mouse-noise. But they are very mild in your recording and neglectable. Do you have a cold? Your nose seems to be closed. Sprays open it, but this is also a neglectable nitpicker thing. It sounds awesome.)

You said, you can do an accent? Don?t hold it back if its comfy for you. Especially if you think it fits to the character. Anyway its interesting to hear accents and is charming. I personally would always prefer an accent over an oxford english, wheter it fits the story or not. So i?d rather hear your accent in any case.

Peter, i got nothing to add atm. You know the drill.

Has anyone signed on for Chapter Two yet?

I'm getting brave (after recording a poem), and I'd like to try something I'm a little less familiar with. I don't mind doing single chapters (02, 06), though something like 8-10 would be great.

I'll dry-run Chapter Two tonight; it's short and no trouble. Let me know what else you need. I'm game.

Hi Chicobangs. Nice that you throw yourself right in. Let me know which chapters you definatly want to read. Seldom that chapters are allocated by the manager i think - you choose.

Okay. Great!

Well, I just finished Chapter 2 (I'm just mastering & encoding it now), and I'd like to take a shot at Chapters 8, 9 and 10. See how that goes.

EDIT: Here's Chapter 2. Let me know if there are any formatting or other issues with it.

I would be happy to try for Chapter 6. Do you still need a reader for it?
