I'm not getting valid files when I try to download them. They are each only 367 bytes long and not mp3 format??!!??

Thanks, Todd

I just download one from the link given. The file was 367 as Todd saw, and when I opened it in an editor, this is what I got:

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<html><head>
<title>301 Moved Permanently</title>
</head><body>
<h1>Moved Permanently</h1>
<p>The document has moved <a href="http://uploads.librivox.org/maryannspiegel/recruitingofficer_justicebalance_2.mp3">here</a>.</p>
<hr>
<address>Apache/2.2.22 (Ubuntu) Server at librivox.org Port 80</address>
</body></html>

Okay, I'll try to upload again later, I'm on my tablet right now.

However, the file does appear to be at the location file that text says it was moved to ("http://uploads.librivox.org/maryannspiegel/recruitingofficer_justicebalance_2.mp3")

That's the same name, except on the start with uploads and librivox. I have no idea what I have done for that to happen...

We had some glitches in the system yesterday so maybe it also affected the file downloading. Please try downloading again, the files appear to be correctly in MaryAnn's folder, and the first link downloaded fine for me just now.

Well, this is kind-of weird.

If you go to "http://uploads.librivox.org/" you'll see the folder structure of all the uploads, which you can click through. (That's sort-of a security hole, so it probably should be locked down).

Now, if you go to "http://librivox.org/uploads" it will automatically flip over to "http://uploads.librivox.org/"

So, when you try to download a file, say "https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/recruitingofficer_stagedirections_1.mp3" the server sends back a 301 "Permanently moved" command, say the file is actually at "https://uploadsibrivox.org/maryannspiegel/recruitingofficer_stagedirections_1.mp3", and then your browser then issues a new request for the correct address. (why the upload app tells us the wrong address at first is a mystery).

So, the text that should be sent to your browser when you request the file, somehow got stored in place of the file. And since there's a real file at "http://librivox.org/uploads", it doesn't trigger the "301" redirect.

Not a security hole, one can't change anything, but only see what's in there and download, just as with any links of files in the forum. It's helpful in some cases, for BCs for example, when a reader says they've uploaded a file but forgot to post the link - it saves some time. or if someone says 'I've been trying to upload my file but nothing happens" and we go check the uploads folder and we find 5 copies of that file, etc.

So the links Kristin posted don't download for you? They download fine for me :hmm: ...
(I'm not currently logged in the workflow, if that makes any difference)

I tried downloading it on a different computer, and it works fine for me too. Should I upload again, or...?

Now, if I try downloading it from the original link (https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/recruitingofficer_justicebalance_2.mp3) I get the correct file, so apparently it was a temporary problem.

Hi Todd,
Could I please read for either Constable or Justice Scruple - if you don't mind a woman's voice, I can speak with a low voice?

Just tried again - all three files - same problem.

Sorry, Todd
