Hi Rob, Welcome back to the Nonfiction Collection with this--very nicely read--impressionistic sketch about Wilde.

Saltus, was a new author to me; He seems to have had quite a way with words himself. I was especially taken with: " . . . it is on illusions that we all subsist. Yes, Saltus does know how to turn a phrase (and then turn it back on itself and hide it inside a subordinate clause or eight). There is a group currently reading one his novels (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=53820), which is how I came across him. Great find for me, as I thought I had dug through all of the mini-biographies of Wilde.

Just goes to show what you can find on the Librivox forums!

Thanks for PLing. Is this two second thing just for the collections? I always thought we were supposed to leave no more than 0.5-1 seconds silence at the start, which I interpreted as a preference for no silence (so I usually get rid of almost all of it). I just checked the requirements on the first page of this project and they're the same.

It's no problem if the requirements are different here (or have changed generally), but it would be good to know so I can be sure what to do next time.

Ah, Rob and Hugh, Nothing like a bit of confusion. . . . . .

Rob, yes, you are correct.

It is "no more than 0.5 to 1 second at the beginning" . . . When I saw Hugh's post this morning I pm'd him about it--his PLing is usually very very good (yeah, Hugh

). However, then, checking the instructions, I saw that I didn't have the start timing in the instructions

, so, I changed those to read what you, Rob, saw. I did all this at 5 a.m. Midwestern USA time, but I didn't have time then to check to see if you, Rob, had added the 2 seconds (in which case, we would have fixed things on this end since you, hadn't made a mistake

) Now I'm back to my computer; it's 8 a.m. here in Illinois; Hugh is in another time zone entirely, but we'll get everything back on track. It always amazes me how LibriVox, where we're all volunteers, manages to collaborate and function as well as is does.

Hi there John, Many thanks for your reading of Goldfish!

We like variety here; it always amazes me, as BC, to see how each volume of the Nonfiction Collection develops, what topics people pick to read about.

As to goldfish, well, the fish tank in our house holds a lone cat fish, who has been lord of his realm for the better part of a decade now (the tropical fish long gone to fish heaven). When I try to clean the algae off the sides of the glass, he swims up and butts my hand, as if to tell me to stay out of his territory--rather disconcerting. . .
