Hello All
No problem Darvinia ; I didn’t know about the “no sound effects” policy.
Problems corrected :
- sound effect bells
- file name with “01” (iso “1”)
The corrected file is here : https://librivox.org/uploads/darvinia/thelaststroke_01_lynch_128kb.mp3
File length : 13 min 33 sec
I see you have a “no negative criticism (unless asked-for) of specific LibriVox recordings” policy.
But as I’m a newcomer, in apprenticeship, I would like some feedback on this chapter 1.
Is it too fast ? Are the “s’s” too strident (if so, how to correct ?).
And all else that might make future recordings better.
Thanks to all,
Philippe.

Good! Your section is pl ok!
The speed is just fine as are your s's. There are so many listeners that if one person dislikes a particular way of reading someone else will really enjoy it, there is not a standard way of doing it. Read how you like to, and how you are comfortable! Most importantly have fun while doing it!! Listening to your chapter was a pleasure

What you ask for is not negative, it is constructive! Negative would be "Well, that was really bad!", constructive would be " Next time, why don't you try...."

Thank you Phillippe.dumbo wrote: No problem Darvinia ; I didn’t know about the “no sound effects” policy.
You can ask for constructive criticism (we call it CC) anytime you post a file in any project. Just say something like "CC welcome" or "CC requested". Some PLers will give it, others won't, depending on their comfort level.dumbo wrote:I see you have a “no negative criticism (unless asked-for) of specific LibriVox recordings” policy.

You were busy today! There was just one thing at about 7:30 something odd happens with the mic/your voice for a few seconds. Other than that it sounds great!

Actually, it was yesterday but finally got round to uploading todayfiddlesticks wrote:You were busy today! There was just one thing at about 7:30 something odd happens with the mic/your voice for a few seconds. Other than that it sounds great!
That glitch was strange... I read it as normal, but the mic skipped, or the recording did, or something and I had to patch in a couple of words. Will be a few days before I can get to try and re-fix it.
Hello
Here is chapter three : https://librivox.org/uploads/darvinia/thelaststroke_03_lynch_128kb.mp3
File length : 13 min 54 sec
Could I claim chapter 5, please ?
-------------------
I have a small problem with a paragraph of chapter 3, at the bottom of page 37 :
it seems there are a few words missing, or one word too much.
Original text :
"Tell the people it is not yet determined how or when we shall hold the inquiry.
Miss Grant, who must be a witness, will hardly be able to appear at once, I fear," for, after looking to his guest's bodily comfort,
the doctor had left him to be alone with his grief for a little while . . .
I’ve dictated this :
. . . will hardly be able to appear at once, I fear.
[ pause, then ] :
After looking to his guest's bodily comfort . . .
Alright ?

Well, the rest of the sentence (which you didn't type) serves as explanation for how and why the doctor knows that Mrs Grant can't come immediately (for he had paid her a visit after he had seen to the comfort of his guest).

Thank you. Once again, you may have run into a "read the text" issue... There are times when the text appears clumsy or even just wrong, but we read it as written. If it really appears there is an error (sometimes we find a whole page missing....) we have to see if we can find the text elsewhere to confirm (such as archive.com).dumbo wrote:Hello

PL note for chapter 3 you need to add 'end of chapter 3' to the end of the recording.
~Tiffany
Bonjour de Paris La Belle.
With "end of chapter three" : https://librivox.org/uploads/darvinia/thelaststroke_03_lynch_128kb.mp3
( it was recorded but slipped somehow, clumsy thing ).
