Children's Short Works Collection Vol. 021 by Various ( - ).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/childrens-short-works-vol-021-by-various/
Librivox's Children's Short Works Collection 021: a collection of 15 short works for children in the public domain read by a variety of Librivox members. ( Elli)
NEW READERS: Please read the Newbie Guide to Recording and do a short test recording before submitting here, just to make sure that all your settings are OK. Then please read this post carefully and refer back to it. It has all the information you need to submit a recording successfully.

This collection is for any children's short work in the English Language in the public domain, preferably less than 60 minutes. You are welcome to contribute as many as you wish, and there is no need to "sign-up" before recording as long as the work is clearly in the public domain. Please post here if you are unsure about public domain status.
Please submit poetry to: LibriVox Short Poetry Collection

Where can I find short works for children?
Try http://www.gutenberg.org/
http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/loccs/pz
or any other place you can find some - but they must be Public Domain - many children's things on the internet are not.

Multiple versions are always welcome, so you can record a story that has been recorded before. (If the same stories are submitted twice in the same collection, we will carry the second version over to the next collection) .

You may prefer to submit your recording to one of the other more specialised short story collections.

After more than 10 recordings are submitted, we will prooflisten, catalog and make them available to the public.

1. RECORD
  • Be sure to set your recording software to: 44100Hz, 16-bit
  • At the BEGINNING Say: "[Title of Work], by [Author Name]" "This is a Librivox recording. All Librivox Recordings are in the public domain. For more information or to volunteer, please visit Librivox.org"
  • At the END, say: "End of [Title], by [Author Name]"
  • If you wish, you may also say: "Read by...your name."
  • Please leave 5 seconds of silence at the end of your recording or 10 seconds if longer than 30 minutes.
2. EDIT and SAVE your file:
  • Need noise-cleaning?Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear distracting background noise, you may want to clean it up a bit. The free beta version 1.3.3. of Audacity (Mac/Win) has much improved noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide. Note: Noisecleaning with earlier versions of Audacity (1.2.x) is not recommended.
  • ID3 Tags:
    • • Title/Name: [Title]
      • Artist: [Author Name(birth year-death year]
      • Album: Children's Short Works Collection Vol. 021
  • Save or export your recording to an mp3 file at 128kpbs using the following filename:
    • File Name: Put file name all in lowercase, and the title all in one word (no leading articles i.e. the, a, an, and NO SPACES): childrensshortworks021_shorttitleinoneword_readersinitials_128kb.mp3,
      e.g. childrensshortworks021_scarletgiantbean_ge_128kb.mp3
3. SUBMIT your recording:
Please upload your finished recording using the LibriVox uploader (when your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please copy to post in this thread):
Uploader: http://librivox.org/login/uploader

If you have trouble reading the image above, please send a private message to any admin
You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: avs - aravis.
*If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

4. POST the following information in this thread:
  • • The link you copied from the uploader to your file
    • Name of your story
    • Author (birth year - death year)
    • Translator if applicable (birth year - death year)
    • Source from which you read (i.e. Gutenberg etext url)
    • Length in minutes and size in MB of your file
    • If this is your first Librivox recording, I will also need your name as you would like it to appear on the catalogue page and the URL of your homepage if you have one and would like it linked to your name on the catalogue page.

Want to see if what you plan to record has been done already?

Search by keywords in the Catalog Search
But don't let this stop you from recording your own version!

Please don't download files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Elli,

SweetPea has lead the way. I have recorded another Beatrix Potter Story.

https://librivox.org/uploads/aravis/childrensshortworks021_taleofmrtod_jw_128kb.mp3
The Tale of Mr. Tod
Beatrix Potter (1866-1943)
http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/19805
Track Length: 30:21
Size: 27.8Mib 128 kbps 44,100 Hz Mono
Volume: 88.0 dB
This is my first Librivox recording. My name is Jacob Whitmore.
I don't have a webpage to link to at this time, can that be changed later? (On a later recording, no need on this one).

Thank you for the opportunity.

Hi Grace!

Lovely reading. All tech settings are fine and so is the volume. There is one one small thing that needs to be fixed:

8:20 repeat

Lucie scrambled up the stile with the bundle in her hand; and then she turned to say "Good-night," and to thank the washer-woman—But what a very odd thing! Mrs. Tiggy-winkle had not waited either for thanks or for the washing bill!

HI and welcome to LibriVox, grapeline!

Thanks for your help with the prooflistening. :D
It would however be good if you would claim a section (or project for that matter) you'd like to listen to beforehand as quite a lot of projects already have a DPL (=dedicated prooflistener, who listens to all sections.)

Here is a bit more information on prooflistening:
