The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859 - 1930).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-return-of-sherlock-holmes-dramatic-reading-by-sir-arthur-conan-doyle/

The Return of Sherlock Holmes is set three years after the detective fell to his death in the Reichenbach Falls in his final struggle with Moriarty. Or did he? In the first story of the series Holmes explains to Watson what really happened that day, followed by twelve more adventures of the dynamic duo including two of Doyle's own favourite stories: The Dancing Men and The Second Stain. Other notable characters in this book include Black Peter and Charles Augustus Milverton. (Summary by Beth Thomas)
    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (FOR THE DPL ONLY): http://www.gutenberg.org/files/108/108-h/108-h.htm
EVERYONE ELSE PLEASE READ FROM THE GOOGLE DOCS LINKED IN THE MAGIC WINDOW!
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Type of prooflistening requested: Special for Dramatic Works. Individual roles should be PL'd against the text as soon as they are submitted to ensure that no lines have been left out. Final edited files should be PL'd against the original source text (not Google docs).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Here is a link to the cast list showing which stories the characters appear in (scripts are linked in the magic window). I'm not looking for gender-correct casting so please feel free to claim anything that takes your fancy! The descriptions are just indicators of the kinds of roles they are - not binding. The roles are arranged mostly in order of size, but they are mixed with one-liner roles and more substantial parts in different chapters.

May I claim Martin/Hopkins, please?
Between being a full-time college student and working 20+ hours per week, I'm not able to be involved at LV these days, but I remain a loyal fan and look forward to a triumphant return sometime in the (probably distant) future.

Hello,

May I claim Anna, please? I'm not Russian, I have an accent that I'm trying to get rid of, but I think, it'll come in handy for this character!

Thanks

Any exotic accent would do - something different for contrast! I'll put you in as soon as we get a MW.

Hi Frances, I might ask you to just pick one for now, as I think this will be a popular project. If there's more left later you can certainly have another one. I've given you the first "green" role (according to the cast list in the link).
