I just noticed that the 'link to text' is not working. you can go to the main text and find your section if you want while I try to find out why this is happening.

Hi Johnita and a big welcome to LibriVox! :D I have assigned those three little chapters to you but before you record them, please make and upload a 1 minute test to be sure your recording set up is OK. Instructions can be found in our Wiki and in the first post of this project but Here is a video that may help too: How to Make your 1 minute test. and then How to Upload your 1 minute test

I also recommend Getting To Know our Forums

We just want to check out your technical specs. Don't forget to post the link either in this thread or in Listeners WAnted forum. And how would you like to be credited in our catalog? What name? most of us use our real name.

Welcoome again and ask lots of questions; we are a friendly bunch here

Hi! and welcome to LibriVox and to this project. The normal procedure is to request a section in the project thread (this thing here) and the Book Coordinator will assign it to you and post it in the magic window. I will try to find your 1 minute test and let you know how your tech specs. I am sure you did a fine job.

Oh, here is a little video I also recommend Getting To Know our Forums Getting To Know our Forums

EDIT: I listened to a bit of the file you uploaded and I'm sorry to say that it will need to be redone. Your technical specifications are fine, but there are many 'plosives, pops where you either bumped the microphone or your breath hit it directly causing loud sound. Also, your general volume is too low. What kind of microphone and set up are you using? It sounds kind of muffled. Also there are many spikes (loud) in the recording which will make it difficult to amplify. What audio editing program are you using? This can all be fixed so be patient for a bit and work with me, you will be recording in just a short period. If someone responds to your 1 minute test, please work with them too and let me know if I can help in any way. There are a lot of helpful videos linked in my signature which you may find usefful. Ask lots of queswtions!!!!!!! Image

This is my first recording. I downloaded audacity to make my test recording, and then tried to export the file as an mp3. It told me I needed to download an mp3 converter - lame library or something like that, which I did, but it when I try to export, it still says I need to download it and then tells me it couldn't access the mp3 encoding library. I have a Mac OS 10.6. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sure. But first, please don't get discouraged, this is a common problem. The goodnews is that it is not difficult and once done you never need to do it again. The LAME must be where Audacity can find it. Normally the place where it is saved is the proper place. Here is a link to instructions from Audacity users on installing LAME for theMac.
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Lame_Installation#Mac_Instructions

please keep asking questions. If it is still a problem, please post the question in our Audacity Help thread or Need Help forums.
 hang in there, you will be recording in no time.
