The Beaux Stratagem by George Farquhar (1677-1707) .

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/beaux-stratagem-by-george-farquhar/
Two gentlemen of broken fortune, disguised as master and servant, thinking that a good dowry captured by one of them split both ways would solve their money problems; a pompous highwayman and his confederates; a foxy inn-keeper with a saucy daughter; the country home of a drunken squire, his long suffering wife, medicine-practicing Mother, and her beautiful daughter. What could possibly go wrong? (Summary by ToddHW)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a role to record, simply look at point 5. below at the roles. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which role you'd like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded role within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your role will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your role, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for a role you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text?
Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/21334
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Certainly. A drunken blockhead at that. His name might as well have been "Sodden" or "Soused" (at least in Thorton Wilder's version).

Thanks, Todd

I just stumbled onto this thread and immediately said to my dad "Guess what they're recording!"
My dad was an actor in community theater in his younger days, and one of his favorite and most celebrated roles was as Scrub in Beaux Strategem. He would love to read that part again for old times' sake!
He is not at present a LV reader, but I can get him set up on the forum and a 1-minute test and all that jazz in the next day or so. Since he's not very tech-savvy, I'll do his editing and noise-cleaning and uploading stuff for him. Meanwhile, could he claim Scrub? You could put "commonsparrow's dad" until I've got a proper username for him.

Also, since I think it would be cool to be on the same project with my dad, may I claim the part of Gipsy?
