Bob, I am going to move this to Abandoned and On Hold in a week or so. You can request that it be reopened whenever you wish. :D

I have decided to adopt this abandoned solo as a group project - I've played chess as a teenager, but not for years yet...
Paul Morphy seems to have been one of the big ones, an unofficial world champion and a chess prodigy.

Enjoy!
Cheers, Ava.

Hello there, Availle. I would like to tackle sections 2 and 3 if I could.

You know, I vaguely remember seeing this project pop up last year before going on it's way. It's sad when life intervenes and redirects you to another place. But that's life, I suppose.

In either case, I am glad to see this project plucked from Librivox limbo. As a fan and avid lover of chess (with little to no knowledge of yesterday's chess heroes), I am sure this lovely biography will be an entertaining piece to work on. I would love to see this and more chess books made available to listeners.

Great - thanks for helping out here!

I don't know how many chess books are out there that would make a good audiobook. I mean, biographies, sure, but the "how to play" books have many graphics explaining the details of the game, all of those would be lost unfortunately...

Anyway, sections 2 and 3 are all yours - enjoy!

Sections 2 and 3 are complete!

Section 2 clocks in a 12:52 and section 3 records at 16:53.

If there are any issues encountered in the PL process, please let me know.

This book reminds me of an American version of Samuel Johnson's life, only it involves chess, and of course, neither Johnson or Boswell show up. Like the previous reader, I enjoyed narrating the absolutely formal correspondence made between the parties. I think I am going to like this project.

I agree. Aside from biographies, I can't see many chess books or magazines being recorded for Librivox. I suppose a potential project of that nature would come down to having little or no visual requirements, mainly chess samples and games between opponents. A project with those samples wouldn't mean much unless you're the kind of person who can reconstruct a game of chess entirely by memory. And I'm sure there are plenty of people like that.

I think I gave this hint away in a post above, but I would like to continue recording for this project, if I may. I think I'd like to tackle sections 4 and 5: the big chapter divided into two sections.

You're very quick - thanks for your files! I"ll go and advertise for a PLer for this project.

I'm so sorry, hints have never worked with me... Orders do though  Sections 4 and 5 are yours - enjoy!

Thanks for remembering me! Makes me feel good! Yeah I have been busy with a lot of things. Glad to be back on librivox though! I am still trying to remember how to setup all my recording equipment properly like with audacity and whatnot! I feel a bit rusty!

I am a bit rusty and may need to tweak/adjust my audio-recording equipment/software. Let me know if that is okay. thanks!

I can't seem to get my audio input high enough to hit the 0.5 mark in audacity. Any ideas? I already cranked up input to its maximum.
