The Happy Prince and Other Tales by Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900) .

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-happy-prince-and-other-tales-dramatic-reading-by-oscar-wilde/

Wilde's collection of fairytales has delighted both children and adults since it was first published in 1888. It contains five stories, "The Happy Prince", "The Nightingale and the Rose", "The Selfish Giant", "The Devoted Friend", and "The Remarkable Rocket". (Summary by Charlotte Duckett)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text?
Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/30120 Read from Google Docs in MW please :D
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Ok, firstly I'd like to apologise for starting this when so many new Dramatic projects have been started recently. Sorry, I just couldn't wait :)

Secondly, I've set this out a little differently from every other dramatic reading going on at the moment. Instead of having 70 odd small characters (it seems Mr Wilde didn't think about how difficult it would be to find enough people for a dramatic reading! ) I have split the entire five books into 9 characters, each color coded. The characters each say equal amounts (I word counted) and they alternate who's narration and who's being lead characters and who's being support characters throughout.

Because of this, I don't need a conventional DP, just the person's name which I can paste on after the narrator say "recorded by" :)

Ok, I'm not sure I've explained it well, or clearly, but as soon as there is an MW up and you can all see how I've set the script out, I think that makes it easier to understand :D

Thank you all, and again, I'm sorry that a lot of projects have been started recently and I totally understand if I'm stuck in Launch Pad for a few days or even a week :)

Oh, Oscar Wilde is my favorite!!! I'd love to be part of this once you get the MW filled out. :D
Between being a full-time college student and working 20+ hours per week, I'm not able to be involved at LV these days, but I remain a loyal fan and look forward to a triumphant return sometime in the (probably distant) future.

Thank you Barry! It is a pleasure to work with you again! :D

Amanda, I have put you as Dark Blue. The "highlight" of being Dark Blue is being the nightingale in the second story :)

Libby, I have put you as White. The "highlight" of being White is narrating the Happy Prince and being the Remarkable Rocket :)

Eden, I have put you as Orange. The "highlight" of being Orange is being the Linnet in the Devoted Friend :)

Oh, and if a line is multicolored, please read the whole line, not just the word/half word of your color :D

I love these stories! I'd be very happy to PL, if you'd like?
It's the end of term, so I am back! Thank you for being patient with me, and please PM if I don't seem to have caught an update that I should have seen.

Sure, if you want to :D Would you rather read in them? If so, I'll get rid of the gender-specific-ness (meaning people who have already claimed can swap roles if they want :D )

That's really nice of you :) PLing works best for me on current schedule (too much commuting, not enough time behind a microphone! - and Henrietta is my priority when I have recording time).

ETA: I have a temporary MW username, as mine doesn't work: sio10

PLing it is! :D Thanks a lot!

For everyone else, I have decided to remove the gender specific thing and if you want to, please don't be afraid to change roles! (If I were anyone, purple is pretty good, being the Happy Prince and the Miller :) )
