PL Notes for section 2 and 6
The reading is great

Both files would benefit from some noise cleaning if you are using Audacity please try the following

Your file could also benefit from a pass of light noise cleaning.

Select a short selection of background noise only (no speech), then click Effect | Noise Removal and Get Noise Profile.

Then select the whole recording (Ctrl+A), click Effect | Noise Removal again. I use the following settings:

Noise reduction: 7 dB
Sensitivity: 0 dB
Frequency smoothing: 150 Hz
Attack/decay: 0.1

Here are some other noise cleaning resources:
text instructions: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noisecleaning_With_Pics
video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFSg9o37HMw

If there is still noise left in the file, you can do a second pass. We've found that it is better to do two passes of "light" noise cleaning (with settings like those above) than to try to take out all the noise in one pass.

Also there are a number of places throughout each file where there is either banging against the microphone or plosives which are usually caused by your breath hitting the microphone as you are talking. It is best to have the microphone slightly to the side or below your mouth to avoid this happening.

When you have carried out these edits please reupload using the same filename. Please ask if you need any help with this.

This is section 9, which I think is much better than any of my previous recordings thanks to your kind advice. Hope you'll find it satisfactory enough.

Is there a problem with the site or is it coming from me? The Magic Window doesn't appear any longer and there seems to be a security problem...

Do you think I should wait until it's all fixed up to post new recordings?

The first three of my twenty (GULP) sections have been uploaded; one more recorded and in my editing queue.

I had a hard time getting the intros and outros done correctly, so let me know if I finally go them straight -- and any other glitches, of course.

Now that I have my recording space set up, I'll try to work away at these. By my calculations, it should be close to four hours of recording time!

One more -- Section 11 for Mr Lovelace

Two more recorded, but I won't get to the editing until next week. I'll be out for a couple of days attending Readercon. What will I do there? Listen to authors read books, of course. (Don't have to PL them, though.) And listen to them all talk about books, writing and speculation about speculative fiction. Should be great fun.
