Colonel Thorndyke's Secret by George Alfred Henty (1832 - 1902) .

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found at the catalog page for this project: http://librivox.org/colonel-thorndykes-secret-by-g-a-henty/
Intrigue, murder, highwaymen... A British soldier serving in India has stolen a diamond bracelet from a Hindu idol. The bracelet comes into the possession of Colonel Thorndyke, who is subsequently sent home to England, where he dies of wounds received and bequeaths the bracelet to his relatives, having told his brother about it, but not its location. Meanwhile, the theft has caused a stir in India, and the Hindu faithful regard it as their religious duty to reclaim the jewel at any cost. Also published under the title: "The Brahmin's Treasure". (Summary by Lynne Thompson)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text?
Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/8155
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I really like this book, have read it twice. Can I be the DPL? I'm new here, but I think this is something I can do. I've read the FAQ, what else do I need to do to get started? Thanks!

Choosing a book you know is a good place to start.

I don't do proof listening (my hearing is somewhat compromised) so I'm not the best person to advise, but as well as the FAQs, there are some videos made by one of our admins that might help:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFm3IZ1CIa8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0TJOaCIlpI

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0TJOaCIlpI

I think most proof-listeners also download Checker or MP3 Gain (I am more familiar with Checker):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkhk0megqHE&feature=youtu.be
The ideal volume is 89 dB, but anything between 87 and 91 is considered acceptable.

How about you PL chapter 1 and then see if you still want to DPL? Sort of a trial run 8-)

I can add "PL OK" to the MW and if you want to be added as DPL, Carolin (our MC) can add you, which will give you access so you can post your comments directly. She will PM you a user name and password and you will be all set (the user name and password will also get you into other MWs if you are listed as BC or DPL :D )

Just finished chapter 2. Everything was good except for one mistake.

05:53. Repeat: "Every garden blossomed with flowers. Roses and eglantine- roses and eglantine clustered over the cottages".
