WELCOME TO LIBRIVOX!
We’re pleased to see your first Librivox post here at the nonfiction collection. I’ll try to guide you through the steps in making your first recording. Essentially, there are three things you will want to do:
1)Make a short recording to check out the settings on your recording equipment. Instructions for this can be found here:

You will be reading a short paragraph which begins ”People were pleased to find . . .” This reading is NOT an audition (we accept all readers); it’s just to be sure your recording equipment is all in order. (I did the 1-minute test exactly like this when I joined Librivox in 2008.) When your 1-minute test is complete, you will want to post it on this Librivox forum:
viewforum.php?f=21. A volunteer with recording expertise will listen and help you along. When they say you’re ready to do an actual recording, you’re ready for step two.
2) Pick a public domain selection to read: I see you already have something in mind, which is good! I took a look at the “
Girl’s Own Paper,” and it has several interesting non-fiction articles to choose from. I would recommend choosing just one for your first recording. The articles entitled “
Every Girl a Business Woman,” which tells how to write a business letter is nonfiction, as are “
The Amateur Church Organist,” and “
Fashionable Embroidery.” If you would rather read a short story from the
Girl’s Own Paper ( which include “
Merle’s Crusade” and “
The Shepherd’s Fairy,”) that is ok, too, but you will then want to submit your recording to the
short story collection. If your selection is
nonfiction, you are ready for step three:
3) Send up your finished public domain nonfiction recording (less than 60 minutes in length) to the current volume of the nonfiction collection. Right now volume 29 is still open, so you would send it here. If volume 29 is full by the time you finish your recording, just look for Volume 30 of the non-fiction collection under “readers wanted, short works, poetry and prose”:
