Not a stupid question at all! As with all LV dramatic projects the choice of accent is entirely up to the reader. However, in the case of Malcolm, after your superlative performance in D.H.Lawrence's The Princess, I was hoping that this particular lad does have a bit of a Scottish burr.Cleogirl wrote:Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but are Scottish accents going to be employed?

Don't worry Cat, Bev will also be awesome - just as she was as Goneril.
First witch is yours.

I will be the editor and DPL (apart from my own roles.)

As I am dead by act 3, shall I also read Old Siward in act 5.

Indeed Alan - a great role: a man is quite happy to lose a son, as long as the lad died honourably. Enjoy reading it.alanmapstone wrote:As I am dead by act 3, shall I also read Old Siward in act 5.

Shakespeare Online is handy: here's their Macbeth text. It's peppered with hyperlinks, so you can just click on a phrase to see explanatory notes. Plus there's lots of background articles.
A question for you Shakespeare scholars: which would be the best online text to use:
1) http://www.shakespeare-online.com/plays/macbethscenes.html (as suggested by Jason)
2) http://www.opensourceshakespeare.org/views/plays/playmenu.php?WorkID=macbeth
3) http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Tragedy_of_Macbeth
We have used texts Open Source Shakespeare before and found many of them riddled with errors. However, I have perused their Macbeth and it seems to be OK.
Cheers

I think we should use the First Folio. Facsimile available at:

OK, I know it's a stupid idea.

edit after the following post: thanks, I wondered why it wouldn't work, alan

I can see issues arising if you use that text, especially with the V's being U's the U's being V's and the S's looking like F's
Algy, what's going to happen with "come away, come away" and "Black Spirits"? They are songs/speeches mentioned in the Witches sections, added by Middleton, who edited most of Macbeth. They both feature in a play called The Witch and would have been performed in early productions, even though they're only mentioned by title and emitted from most modern productions.
ETA: I can get you link to them if you need
ETA again: Pronunciation of Hecate. I'm almost certain that it's meant to be stretched to 3 syllables (heck-at-ay) so that it fits with the rhythm of the play.

Dear Algy: if still open I'd like to read the First Murderer please. Thank you.
Good luck with this Scottish play...
