[CLASSIC/BOTANY]The Natural History, v4, Pliny the Elder-le
Hi Arnie, because of a stumble @ 04:27 („almost“), you have also the opportunity to change the id3 tag for the title. Greetings, Kajo
(D)PLer with all my heart: It is a PLeasure for me to listen to the spOKen words of LV readers (in dutch, english, german and latin).
Hi Anna,
@ 00:35 is a repeat/correction of the beginning of the chapter title (Olusatrum or Hipposelinon). Besides this, it is PL OK and a pleasure to listen to it (as always.)

May I claim chapter 39!--the last chapter!

May I read Sections 37, 38 and 39 please?
Thank you.
Chiquito
Thank you.

Thanks for PL'ing.kajo wrote:Hi Arnie, because of a stumble @ 04:27 („almost“), you have also the opportunity to change the id3 tag for the title. Greetings, Kajo
I was not sure what Leni wanted in the title field. The opening post reads:
Title: ## - [Section title]
I figured she wanted the whole shabang!
I will shorten it and correct.
Section 01 has been edited and the title field shortened to: "01 - Book 16, Chapters 1-7"

I'd suggest that those links on the opening page listed under 4. Where do I find the text be deleted, as they seem to lead to the wrong volumes and books. The links in the MW are fine, though I have to copy them into a new browser window to get them full screen.
I'll take section 02. This must be the most boring of the volumes. More acorns.

Lots of activity here, thanks to all who helped.
@tekksavvy, the section is assigned, thanks.
@chiquito_crasto, thanks for claiming. However, tekksavvy had requested section 39 just before you. I assigned the other two.
@Arnieh, thanks for the recordings and corrections. I edited teh first post to try and make it clear that only the numbers of the book and sections are needed in the IDtag. However, I don't understand what you mean when you say the links to the books in the first post are wrong. They are links to the beginning of the volumes that contain, the first one, books 16 and 17, and the second, books 18 to 20. The paper volumes don't match the audiobooks in terms of beginning and end, but the links are to the books that contain the sections we are reading here. As to the links in the MW, what I normally do is right click and choose "open in a new tab". But I suppose that depends on browsers. Section 02 is assigned, thanks!
@kajo, thanks for all the help and support as usual!

Thanks Leni. I don't understand it myself. When I click on the first link under 4:Leni wrote:However, I don't understand what you mean when you say the links to the books in the first post are wrong. This takes me to volume III (I can provide a screenshot if needed) which has already been cataloged right? Am I going blind?
And when I click the second link:
http://archive.org/stream/naturalhistoryp02bostgoog#page/n12/mode/2up
This takes me to what appears to be one of the contents pages for volume 4 (I have to flip through the pages to get to the chapters) covering chapters 18-23. However, it seems odd that this particular link for volume 4, doesn't also include books 16 and seventeen. It is as though volume 4 has been split into two parts, each containing some books.

As I said in the my previous message, the paper editions and the audiobooks don't match, they don't start and finish in the same books. The audiobooks contain five of Pliny's books, while the paper editions are irregular - probably due to differences in length, amount of paper, I don't know. Actually, we started reading from a different edition (same translation), which did have five books per volume, but later I found out that edition had problems in the scanning, and it's also available through Google Books, which restricts access in some countries. I changed the source to archive.org, which had another edition, and what "volume III", for example, contains in terms of books is different in different editions of the work.Arnieh wrote:Thanks Leni. All that to say that the link for volume III, that starts with book XI (you're not going blind) contains books up to XVII (it does take the effort necessary to flip to the next pages of the index). The paper edition of volume IV contains books XVIII to XXIII. Since the audiobook contains books XVI to XX, we need both. Unfortunately, the editors of the paper edition weren't always as neat as to include the same number of books per volume - as I won't be able to do in the last volume, which will contain books 30 to 37. I thought some people might have trouble understanding that, though, which is why I provided the links in the MW.
Just as another note on how people divide the work differently in volumes, the wikipedia article on the subject provides a third different view on how to cut the books into volumes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_History_(Pliny)#Table_of_contents
