..... I'm looking into it to make sure it is from one of the PD sources. I'll back to you on it.

Thanks,

Hi again Andy,
It looks like this one is a no go at this point. The PD source for PG AU and Wikisource can't be verified. Maybe they will get that issue of Strand in PG soon or a PD scan in the IA.
Sorry. I wish I had better news.

Hi Andy,
I have great news! RuthieG and Chocoholic dug up the issue of Strand you need on the Internet Archive. RuthieG went the extra mile and even found the page it is on for you.
You are good to go on recording the story now.

Wow! You guys are really good, I searched to no avail!
Thank you for your endeavors!

I have started reading through the 'Strand' version and have noticed just a few changes in the wording when compared to the Australian PG version, so I will continue and be sure to follow the 'original script'.
Once again, many thanks all,
Andy

Hi Phil and Amy,
Well I have finished recording The land Ironclads (c1903) and will submit below; I did have a few reservations: As some of the language is a bit archaic (and non-PC, such as use of the 'N' word) I did wonder what Librivox policy was on this; do we simply record verbatim?
Also, this story is not yet on Gutenberg and policy does request that all stories are; does the fact that this story version is (c1903) PD allow for this?
Anyway here goes:
The Land ironclads

http://archive.org/stream/TheStrandMagazineAnIllustratedMonthly/TheStrandMagazine1903bVol.XxviJul-dec#page/n766/mode/1up
Approx 53 Minutes in duration

I really enjoyed reading this, an insightful tale even today.
Best regards,
Andy

Hi Andy,
We just read them as written knowing that it was a different time. Words like that seem to crop up unfortunately.
The Gutenberg rule is basically for all the pulp scifi published after 1923 that is considered PD. If the source text is after 1923 then it needs to be from there. So this story is okay. It is great to have in the collection.

Thanks!

philchenevert wrote:PL notes on Vital Ingredient. A neat story and well read! Please make the following corrections, upload again and make a reply in this thread that you have done so. If you have any questions I will be glad to help. Image

1) please insert the name of story and author after your name in the beginning (the first post says to do this).

2) Your volume is too high at 95 dB. I suggest that you run the Compressor effect if you are using Audacity. This reduces the loud spikes without touching those of normal volume. If you're not sure about this I will be glad to make a little video showing you how to do this. Just say the word!

3) 3:21 stumble "motions"
6:08 pop should be removed
7:44 noise
8:13 stumble "as it's..."
9:07 stumble "the-his.."
13:24 stumble 'striking .. "(I think)
13:59 stumble "to be able"
Hi Phil,
I made the edits to this file. Please spot check it if you have a chance.
