The role of First Lackey/Second Poet has been orphaned and is now available. Come on folks, let's get this play finished!
Hey, this will be my first contribution to anything, so apologies if I'm way off on any procedure, but may I do section 38, A Man? I love this play, and I just can't resist a role called A Man.
Not to be bold, but since both this role and its attendant All the Audience are exceedingly short, I went ahead and just recorded them. It will be good practice, if nothing else. I guessed that they should be separate files, and that "all the audience" also includes "the audience," so that's what I did. I thought it might be a stretch for "a man" to include "a man of letters" who has one line, though, so I didn't record that. Ought I have? And ought they have been one file?
Heh. I guess what it comes down to is that I have no idea what I'm doing. So I took my best guess ahead of time (which I realize isn't normal, but what's there to lose?) and if this isn't what you wanted, just let me know and I'll take a more informed swing at it!
::Edit:: DPL (Julyan?) I finally figured out where the google docs were. I definitely missed a whole bunch of lines, so you can probably just skip these for now.

Thanks for your enthusiasm. I see that your 1-Minute Test has been approved, so you're okay to claim a role, but in future it is best practice to wait to record until the BC has officially assigned the part to you. Since this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.
I recommend reading this article on doing dramatic works- http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Dramatic_Readings_and_Plays - and the one for Newbies in general (http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Newbie_Guide_to_Recording)
My guess is that you did not use the Google Docs as your text, which is why the files are short. Our DPL will give them a listen, but please make sure to read from the linked Google Docs if that is the instruction given in the first post of the project thread.
Also, the naming for your files is a bit wonky. They should read project title, character name, chapter or act number. So in your case: cyranodebergerac_man_1
Feel free to PM if you have further questions.
Okay, sure. By the way, for easier reference our BC has compiled the "All the Audience" lines here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=43722&start=225 about 3/4 of the way down the page.Bassaga wrote: ::Edit:: DPL (Julyan?) So I've got the "A Man" lines good to go, but I have two questions about the audience lines. First, is it easier for you if I record them into a separate file (and how ought such a file be named? showname_role_audience_#?) or is it preferable to mix them into the same file? Second, how the heck do we approach a line that the audience sings? I didn't see any mention in this thread of a tune called La Clorise- does everybody else know it already? Do we have a key to sing in? Are we just making it up individually? Or do we just sort of shout it rhythmically and hope we sound good together?
EDIT: Hmm. I see below the answer to my first question, that they go together in one file. Alack, it is forbidden to listen to the mp3 there and get the answer to the second question!

You can do either, make a separate file (cyranodebergerac_alltheaudience_1) or just include the audience lines in the A Man file for Act I.Bassaga wrote:So I've got the "A Man" lines good to go, but I have two questions about the audience lines. La Clorise is not a song- it is the name of the play the audience has come to see that Cyrano interrupts. It says "singing," but really it is more like the audience is chanting it, demanding the play.
