Old Rose And Silver by Myrtle Reed (1874 - 1911)
The novel follows the lives of Rose and her widowed Aunt, Madame Francesca Bernard, along with young visitor and cousin Isabel, whose lives are changed by the return of an old friend and neighbour Colonel Kent, and his grown son, Allison. Other characters that help shape their lives in significant ways are the Crosby twins, unconventional and uninhibited youths that set society at naught, and an unconventional doctor who specializes in the impossible. Through the limited "wide-scope" descriptions the reader is not sure of the historical setting or even in which decade it's set, but it helps to understand the focus of the story; after all it's about their own little world, and how their own hearts and lives fit together in the tight confines of their town, their garden, their friendships and lives. (Summary by wikipedia.org)
This delightful project is complete and all audio files are available at http://librivox.org/old-rose-and-silver-by-myrtle-reed/
  • Target completion date: 2013-May-20
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/5401
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Morlock. I will MC this for you. Since you have used the solo template I presume this is a solo?

Also, should we advertise for a Dedicated Proof Listener? or do you have someone already lined up.

I have changed the source text to http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/5401. This is the page we always use, not the actual text. Everything else looks fine.

OK, the Magic Window is up and I have entered the first title as an example. I see you have done a solo before so that is great!

Thank you Carolyn. OK, I do believe you two are set up and ready to rock and roll. This looks like a fun project. If you need anything just ask.

Oh yes, I am moving this to Going Solo.

YAY! So, I'm wondering about something; In the text there are mentions of sheet music in brackets. Should I read the brackets or dismiss them?

There were a few snags with chapter one but I'm hoping to get it sent in today.

Please describe in greater detail what you mean by "mentions of sheet music". Generally our goal is to read it the way the author wrote it but the soloist has some discretion about footnotes and things like that.

After the title of chapter one it reads:

[Illustration: Musical Notation]

Then in chapter three it reads:

Smiling, Rose began one of the simple melodies that Aunt Francesca loved:

[Illustration: musical notation]

Suddenly, she turned away from the piano. Her elbow, falling upon the keys, made a harsh dissonance. "Isabel, my dear!" she cried. "Aren't you almost too gorgeous?"

So it seems to be describing a missing illustration, except in this case I'd guess it's sheet music.

thats a tricky one! i forwarded the question to those who know the policies better than myself, we will let you know the definite answer as soon as we got it.

ill get to pl'ing the chapters as soon as i can :D

CK

edited: the answer came quickly :) you can leave it out if you would like, but if you think that this note will be important for the readers understanding, you can also just read it. this might be the case in the second instance where it is mentioned in chapter one. ill pay attention to that when i listen :)

Morlock. I don't know if this is necessary with a fabulous DPL like Carolin, but usually the BC adds the note "PL Needed" to the notes section to let them know it is ready to be listened to.
