FYI, I'm going to be away from LibriVox (except perhaps in short bursts in the evenings) from Wednesday to Sunday. Things seem to be running smoothly, but I'll deal with any issues that might crop up when I am back on.

Hi,
Sorry I've been a bit slow at PL'ing, it's 'cos I've had a cold, doesn't do my attention span much good. I'll come back and check the edits soon. BTW, most of the recordings so far have only a few seconds silence at the end, less than 5 - is that ok? I've only commented where it stops immediately after the end-of-section comment.
Cheers,

How many is "only a few seconds"? Ideally they should be 5 seconds, but if that's a hardship, I think they should be fixed if they're any less than 3 seconds. Further sections should be 5 seconds, since now the reader knows about it.

They would be 3 -4 seconds; there is a noticeable break before the recording stops. I'll time it a bit better for the next ones I listen to.TriciaG wrote:How many is "only a few seconds"? Maybe it would help to explain the reason behind the silence at the end. So, for your personal edification, here it is:
Once upon a time, there were some media players (or MP3 players, not sure which) that would cut off the end of the files it played. So if a recording didn't have sufficient silence at the end, it would cut off the narration. A bit of experimentation was done to determine how much they cut off for different length files, and the standard was developed to leave 5 secs at the end of files under 30 minutes, and 10 seconds at the end of longer files.
Honestly, I don't know if there are any players that do this anymore, but that is the reason for the silence at the end and why we don't just leave a second or two.
I think 3-4 seconds in these is fine, if there are no other edits to make. Ideally we'd stick to the standard, but I'm not going to be adamant about it.
