Hello there, horrorifics:

If you're open to a Japanese horror, I'd like to contribute "The Story of Mimi-Nashi-Hoichi":

http://www.horrormasters.com/Text/a0061_01.pdf

Probably about fifteen minutes in length.

Thanks, Starlite and everyone who's been on the thread. I've been out of touch for a week; will be back again in a couple of days.

Never mind. I see that it's already been done in solos.

Do read it if you'd like to. I'd just prefer to avoid duplicates within a particular collection of stories.

This was made into a black-and-white movie that I remember scaring the fertilizer out of me. Okay I was 5, but still...

I've found two versions, one at Gutenberg and one at Horrormasters. The Gutenberg versions seems to be missing the last page...with the punchline, so I'll go with the HM version:

http://www.horrormasters.com/Text/a1285.pdf

I haven't found it already done at LV. If anybody knows different please flag me so I can pick another.

sjmarky,
I've not got adobe set up on my new machine, so couldn't download that file (I mean to set up version 5 of the pdf program, as version 6 is too slow to set up and takes up too much space). Is this Mimi-Nashi-Hoichi?

Thanks,
Peter

No, it's The Beast With Five Fingers by FW Harvey. It's also in this Gutenberg compilation (althoug as I noted, the last page missing):

http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/15143

Mimi-Nashi-Hoichi is already recorded as part of the Kwaidan series in solo's so I decided against it.

If your looking for a small, fast PDF viewer, you should look at non-adobe pdf viewer. Such as this one; http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php
While I haven't used personally used it, is meant to be fast and the install file is only 1.5 megabytes; http://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/

Thanks, crazybus; downloading it now. Like Windows, the adobe pdf program does far, far much more than I need, and takes up my hard disk space with its redundant junk.

... and thanks for the information on your file, sjmarky.

Hi! I'm new to LibriVox (listening to Treasure Island) and am amazed at the quality, breadth, and depth of the recordings. Not to mention the active and helpful community. I want in! Following the rules, I'm going to start with a short story. I like horror, so I found this thread. I'd like to read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Japanned Box" for this collection. I hope to have it you by the end of the year for your review, Peter.

I'll be reading from the text found here:
http://www.horrormasters.com/Text/a1971.pdf

Thanks all!

After doing some research, it appears that both Gutenberg and Horrormasters have the author's name wrong. They list Frederick William (FW) Harvey. The correct auther is William Fryer (WF) Harvey. FW was a poet, WF a novelist, both writing at the same time. Hence, the intro and outro to my recording are wrong, so I'm going to pull it back and re-do it.
