Post a list (or a link to a list) of all short stories that have already been recorded for LV, so people who don't want to make repeats can know what's been done already. I've noticed that at least one short story (The War Prayer by Mark Twain) is included in two Short Story Collections (004 and 007).

This is a great idea!... our index of stories is no longer being kept up-to-date, however as we are in the process of switching to a database system... but here is the link to the list: http://librivox.org/poetry-story-index/ =)

Greg, this is hilarious! Thank you for recording it! ... we'll happily include it in this collection =)

I'm glad you liked it. The second 'story' in the book, "ALWAYS GET THE FACTS" made me laugh too. Unfortunately I was looking through the rest of the stories and some of the them are slightly to overtly racist in an early 20th century way. Black people and the Irish seem to get the worst of it. It does give you an interesting window into the minds of people in America after the first world war.thistlechick wrote:Greg, this is hilarious! Hello, I'm new here.
I've been recording Rudyard Kiplings Just So Stories (http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/2781) for my niece and in the process of looking for other audio content for her consumption I discovered LibriVox - what an excellent outfit!
Anyway, I'm going to top and tail my recordings with the appropriate LibriVox disclaimer, introduction and ending, format the file and tags appropriately and post here.
The first one - 'How the Whale Got His Throat' is at :
http://www.gigasize.com/get.php/180844/justsostorieshowthe_whalegothisthroatkiplingreynard.mp3
although it looks like gigasize have removed most of the _ in the filename.
I'll post the rest shortly when I've finished recording them (I'm up to 'How the Elephant Got His Nose') and topping/tailing them.

Hi Reynard. Welcome. You may find that the file names are ok after downloading.

Welcome Reynard! .... are you planning on doing all of the Just So Stories? If so, we could start you in a Going Solo thread and collect them all into one collection.... otherwise, I'll happily collect them here... whatever you prefer is fine with me, I just wanted to offer you options =)
oh, and no worries about the underscores in the file names.... I can take care of that on this end for you =)

Betsie,
I've read Kafka's "In The Penal Colony", but it runs to about 65 minutes. Do you want it in the Short Story collection, or should I do it as a solo work?
Here's the link, in case you want it:

Thanks, Betsie, it's all yours.
It'll definitely need a Listen, as I did a lot of cut-and-pasting, and don't particularly want to listen through it again ... it's not a pleasant story.
