Siedem wybranych opowiadań by Władysław Orkan (1875 - 1930) .

którem jako dziecko z piersi matki wyssał.”

Julian Krzyżanowski nazwał go "pieśniarzem krainy kęp i wiecznej nędzy”. Rzeczywiście, całe życie Orkana, tak jego pisarstwo jak działalność społeczna, poświęcona jest biednym, prostym ludziom z rodzinnej ziemi gorczańskiej.
Ale nawet w tej “wiecznej nędzy” potrafił Orkan znaleźć uśmiech. Ta kolekcja wybranych opowiadań przedstawia Orkana humorystę. Od obrazka Włoch, widzianych oczami prostego górala, Jędrka (Jak Jędrek Śklarz po Włochach jeździł), do rozmowy dwóch przyjaciółek od serca - Błażkowej i jej krowy Łysiny (Błażkowa Łysina) każdy znajdzie w tej kolekcji coś dla siebie. This is not an existing original book. It is my own selection of short stories. The title means Seven Selected Stories. It is a working title and perhaps we could come with something better. I hope this is acceptable. The titles I've chosen are:

You silly girl! Of course I don't mind, and thank you for responding so quickly.
And seriously, I don't think it matters. All the information you need is available in English and if you need to know anything more - ask.
I had a quick search but don't think that much of Orkan's work was ever translated, which is a pity. The stories I've chosen are humorous in a quiet, bittersweet way. He does what Voltaire did with his Candide, showing the world through the eyes of simple people. In Orkan's stories they are villagers from Tatra mountain region where Orkan himself was born and lived all his life. He wrote his stories as collections, but I could not find anywhere all of the stories that went in any of them, so decided to 'create' my own.

I read at about 125 wpm. I believe anything above 60 minutes needs to be broken into sections. One of the stories is too long and needs to be broken, is there any special way of numbering such segments, for example storyname_3_author, storyname_3a_author?

Regarding the story that will need to be split, I suggest adding a letter to both files, so it will sort properly.

Thank you Piotrek! When I've read it for the first time I realised this is exactly what I've been always doing with all my animals - dogs and now Escala, my cat. So I feel a strong association with this woman :-D

For non-Polish speaking - this story is about a very chatty peasant woman who once had a terrible experience - she woke up and found that her jaws got locked - she could not utter a word! It lasted only a moment, but scared her, and since that time she always talked, without stopping, mostly to her beloved cow :-) the story is really a one long monologue and very funny.

By the way, I just realised I am not marked as a dedicated listener for your Wampir project - posted in that forum for it to be fixed.

I especially liked the part when she tried to cajole her cow into giving more milk. :mrgreen:

Looking forward to the next chapters and, hopefully, another funny dialogues or monologues in the Tatra dialect :mrgreen:

I don't know about Australia, but in Poland there are many jokes about delusional patients who believe themselves to be Napoleon :mrgreen:

At last! Finished recording the last two stories. Some parts are written in such thick dialect (Tatra mountains) that my tongue was slipping and twisting - but it was fun. Also the introduction is now complete.

Hello, Karen,
I checked - there are three corrections to be made - lower case that should be upper case. The first is in the brackets where I repeat the title of the first story (Jak Jędrek Śklarz... bold character should be upper case. The same towards the end, again bold letters should be upper case:

...przyjaciółek od serca - Błażkowej i jej krowy Łysiny (Błażkowa Łysina) każdy znajdzie...
Was this something I could've done myself? Are there instructions somewhere in the ocean of Wiki?
