I've already completed the first recording, comprising the introduction and section 1 (Bourgeois and Proletarians). I'm currently uploading the 128kbit MP3 to YouSendIt, and will post once that's done (should be around half an hour). If any of you want to listen, but don't fancy downloading a massive file, I'm also going to upload a 12 kbit Speex file. Speex is an audio format designed specifically for low bitrate voice, which means it sounds much better than a 12 kbit MP3 ever would! If you want to play the file in Windows, download and install the Ogg Directshow filters (which, incidentally, also let you play Vorbis and FLAC files) -- you should then be able to play the file in Windows Media player.

Thanks, jon -- files received. I'll add you to the "to come" section of the catalog this afternoon.

I don't really know what to do with the .spx -- I don't think archive.org will accept it in our upload. Any ideas, Hugh?

The .spx file was just there in case people wanted to listen to the material without downloading a 40 meg file. I'll carry on making them, but won't send them to you in future!

(I've followed someone else's lead in testing out Filefront as data storage).

Filefront worked. It's annoying, but it worked! When they say "it may take 30 seconds or more to start your download" they mean it :) Was it easy to use, Jon? Would it confuse a newbie?

Hey GREAT reading, by the way. Just one more section to go and we've got another completed short work! Woohoo!

It was fairly simple to use, but the adverts are annoying -- yousendit's definitely simpler... the downside is that yousendit stuff is only available for a short period of time.

I'm glad you like the reading -- I'll start work on the next section soon!

Very well read, Jon... look forward to the other sections. Speex looks like a good thing - pity it's not yet working for the Mac (or am I missing something).

Raynr, I've moved your recent post and created a new topic for you in the "Going Solo" forum for your solo version of the German Communist Manifesto. Here is the link: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=443

I'm really glad to see this being read in German. If you have any questions or need assistance with your project, don't hesitate to ask =)
