Thanks for your files jing! And thanks for the new claims - you may read as many chapters as you like!
I just wanted to check in this thread, to say that I will not abandon this project! I have a busy summer, but will be back in late August to record more.
Jing
That's okay, thanks jing!
We all know this is going to take a very long time...
Have a great summer!

Hi,
It looks like this project has been on a summer break. I'd like to join the effort to finish it by Dec. 31, 2013. This will be my 1st recording, wish me luck! I've read the story before and have a background in Chinese language, so I'll do my best to keep up with the pronunciations.
Please assign me sections 14 and 15, (Chapter IV part 1&2). Thank you,
-Xuexiansheng

Hi Xuexiansheng, and welcome to Librivox!
I have given Sections 14 and 15 to you, enjoy!
I have also seen that your one minute test has been approved - so you're ready to record this one. One little thing still to do, though: please let me know under what name you'd like to appear in our catalog. This can be your forumname, your real name... whatever you choose. We can also link to a webpage/blog if you like. Your personal librivox page - to keep track of all your sections - is here: http://librivox.org/newcatalog/people_public.php?peopleid=7743
In the first post of this thread, there is a looong list of character pronunciations. You will probably not need them
, but just that you know they are there for consistency.
Enjoy your time here!

Thanks, I'll get to work on Chapter IV!
I'll just use my forum name, Xuexiansheng as my posting name. Glad to be part of the project!

Hi! Just wanted to check in...again. I will not abandon this project
but I'll have to wait till at least January to continue with this project.

Jing
That's okay, no problem. Thanks for letting me know.
Have some great holidays!

Hi,
What good luck! This is my favourite work of fiction. I have only read one English translation of this, but I have read this in Chinese. Please may I be of some help? If so, is there a particular chapter that you would prefer me to read?
Kindest,
Lisa

HI Lisa and welcome to Librivox!
It's great that you're interested in this book, it seems too many people are intimidated by the Chinese.
You can read any chapter you like, but PLEASE first record a one-minute test. This way we can fix any technical errors that could be there, which is easier to do in a one minute recording than in one that's 40 minutes long. Please record your test and post it over in "Listeners Wanted". Your introduction email should have all necessary info.
Once your test is approved, you can claim and record any chapter you like. Meanwhile, you could have a go at prooflistening to this book if you like. Although jing has said she'd want to do that, she cannot listen to her own files. Any bit would help!
Thanks for your help, and have fun on here!

That's okay Lisa, there's no rush. When I opened this project I knew it would take a looong time!
However, I'd love you to prooflisten! Here is our "guide for Proof-listeners" so you know what to do. This project is "standard", so there's no need to mention things that do not change the meaning.
Please let me know if you have any questions!

Alright, I've never spoken a word of Chinese, but if you're accepting us Europhones I'd love to give this a try.
Give me section 35, please (the shortest available section)!

In my experience, nothing ruins a party like someone suddenly speaking Latin in reverse.

Oh, if we just allowed people who speak fluent Chinese to read for this, we'd still be reading next century!
You are very welcome to read Section 35, thank you!
You have seen the extensive list of names on top of the magic window - those are the important ones to get consistent throughout. If you have other words you are not sure of, just ask, we'll find a way!
