Volunteers outside the USA: E,E, Smith died in 1965. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955) or Canada (author's death plus 50 years).
INTRODUCING "Storm" Cloud, who, through tragedy, is destined to become the most noted figure in the galaxy—THE Vortex Blaster (Summary by book cover)
  • Target completion date: --
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/22629
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Dave. I don't know how familiar you are with E.E. Smith's Lensman series but this story relies on much of the technology developed in it. Free means inertialess and inert means ... well, normal stuff where physics laws apply. The first solo I did a year ago was The Skylark of Space; truly a pot boiler and pulp fiction if ever there was. It kind of led into the lensman series. The next solo of mine was Triplanatary: The First in the Lensman series; a much better book. So if this is strange to you that's why; if on the other hand you have no problem understanding the stuff in this story, forgive me for explaining stuff.

:D

03 PL OK. Yikes, another cliff hanger ending!

The Lensman series is on my list of books to read, along with a zillion others. Maybe this will motivate me.

Yeah!! how bout that .....tooo late !!! (music swells) I enjoyed that.

The lensman series is not a 'thinking man's SF'; it is pure adventure with lost of space fighting, gigantic fleets, incredibly brave men, increbibly beautiful women, overwhelming odds ... etc etc.

I can tell you it will be Crystal Crypt and Gun by Philip Dick. But remember, I have 24 chapters of The Road to Oz to record, and edit first so it will be posted but not read for awhile. :D
