My first Librivox recording!

I've never actually read poetry before, so please do feel free to post con-crit on my style.

Thanks all!

gemlad: A lovely sensitive reading. Well done! You must try poetry again. :) I think my only suggestion would be to experiment with mic position - possibly try with it slightly to one side of your mouth, or just an inch further away from your mouth. There were no plosives as such, but I just wondered if you were slightly too close. It's only a feeling, if that makes sense. It didn't spoil the reading at all.

Elaine: another lovely reading. It was in stereo, so in future, please record in mono. I have changed it and reuploaded, also adding a few seconds silence at the end. We always add 5 seconds of silence to <30 minute recordings (10 secs for >30 minute recordings) because some software chops the last few seconds off files. How would you like to be credited on your catalogue page? This can be your forum name, real name or something else. We can also link to a personal web page if you wish.

Neil: I have renamed your file to http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/rg/toadog_chapman_nd.mp3

Winston: I don't often BC the weekly poetry these days, but I always try to do one for remembrancetide. This one struck a particular chord.

All excellent readings this week! Thank you all. :)

Thanks very much for the poem selection and for editing my upload. I am sure I started out recording in mono but some how I must have changed the setting.

Please catalog my reading as Elaine A. Westheimer

Thank you, Ann. :)

Elaine, did you record on Garageband, or use iTunes at all with your recording? Both of those programs seem go their own way, whatever you tell them to do.

Thank you, Lee Ann and Seneca.

Seneca: your volume is exceptionally low. I have amplified it by 20 dB, but of course, that also amplifies the background noise, so it needed some noise reduction treatment. There was a peak at 90 Hz, which in my experience is usually caused by something electrical running in the near vicinity.

For future recordings, try to increase your input volume considerably in your computer's control panel. If you have Realtek sound, you may need to find the microphone boost control which is cunningly and inexplicably hidden away in the playback controls, rather than the recording controls. Let me know if you have a problem and I will look out the link to a Youtube video that takes you through the process.

Other than the volume, it was an excellent reading. :)

Hi Ruth
That is a lovely choice of poem. Don't know how it sounds to you - my first recording! - but it was a good way to me get off the ground. (Thanks for the pointer Lucy)
