Mr. Punch's Dramatic Sequels by St. John Hankin (1869 - 1909) .

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/mr-punchs-dramatic-sequels-by-st-john-hankin/
A collection of short and humorous one-act "sequels" to 14 major plays (many already in the Librivox catalog).

Plays end too soon. They never show
The whole of what I want to know.

The curtain falls and I'm perplexed
With doubts about what happened next.

Did HAMLET'S father haunt no more
The battlements of Elsinore?

Does LADY TEAZLE never call
At LADY SNEERWELL'S now at all?

Was BENEDICK'S a happy marriage?
And will the MELNOTTES keep a carriage?

Will AUBREY take to wife one day
Another MRS. TANQUERAY ?

Do ECCLES and his stepson wrangle?
Has anything been heard of DANGLE?
What has become of MRS. WANGEL?

I've asked again and yet again
These questions hitherto in vain!

I sought the answers near and far.
At length they came, and here they are:-

(Summary is Prefatory to the book)
This is sortalike a pre-selected one-act play collection, with all the plays written by the same author. There are several of us (Gloriana, Kristinjg, CaprishaPage, PeterWhy, ToddHW) BC’ing the plays to spread out the work.

There will be another more normal volunteer BC-selected one-act play collection with plays by different authors coming along, I’m sure, as soon as this one is done!
  1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  2. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a role to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which role you'd like to read. Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://archive.org/details/mrpunchsdramatic00hankiala
  5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

  6. BEFORE recording: Please check the Recording Notes: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430

    Submit one file per act.
  7. Make sure you add this to the beginning of your recording:
    [Role], read by [your name].
If you are reading stage directions, please include for each file:
At the beginning: [Play Title – the title of the sequel play, not the original play!] from Mr. Punch's Dramatic Sequels , by St. John Hankin . This is a Librivox recording. All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit Librivox dot org.
Please read the name of the original play, the short description that precedes the play, and then before the play insert a Dramatis Personae with the character names from the MW for the play so the voice credits can be cut in.
At the end: End of [Play Title – again, the sequel title].
Please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!
  8. AFTER recording:

ID3 V2 tags: Not needed for individual parts.
For completed plays, the filenames should be dramaticsequels_titleinoneword_hankin , and the tags should be
Title: TITLE OF THE ORIGINAL PLAY - title of the sequel (just like it is in the MW)
    Artist: St. John Hankin
    Album: Mr. Punch's Dramatic Sequels

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file.

I fear I must offer to MC this as the only sure way of snagging the part of Mrs. Wangel for myself...

Back with MW soon. :)

EDITED TO ADD: MW up.

Could I take: Narrator in Much Ado (020)
Narrator in School for Scandal (034)
Maid in Caste (050)
Rose in Omar (093)

Thank you :)

Slight disclaimer: I'm really quite ill at the moment (severe Asthma, set off by winter coupled with a chest infection) so I shouldn't be able to record for a few weeks, but I'll try and get it done before the two-months! :)

Here's our first:
EDIT: I've just realised that I misread my hand-written notes: The Title in the ID3 tag is incomplete, as it just gives the title of the original play "The Lady From the Sea". Please tell me if you want it corrected and re-uploaded.

The Lady On The Sea

I don't know if we can edit a submitted tag; maybe someone else will jump in on that.

Do you have the forum names for Sarah and Karen so I can get that in the MW to make the cataloging complete? Also who was narrator?

Finally, does anyone want to PL this play?

Thanks, Todd
