I thoroughly agree, Barty. What a pity Delmar wasn't with LV when Shakespeare's Henry IV was recorded - what a Falstaff he would have made!

Cheers

Here's Timon: Act 3.

I hope you like it.
Any issues, let me know.

Duration 4:39

I should warn you , I forgot to say "Act 3 scene 6" at the start of that scene, but have added in a few handclaps there so that you can find it easily enough.
Thanks Barty

Awesome reading! With Timon’s rage and Apemantus’ snarliness this play is really going to smoke.

Just a couple of minor details to correct.

0:24
You read:
Cut out my heart in sums.
Instead of:
Cut my heart in sums.

0:37
Missing line:
Tear me, take me, and the gods fall upon you!

These lines have been checked in Bartleby and the Project Gutenberg version. The latter seems to be pretty accurate: had I been aware of the problems with the OSS text I probably would have prepared my own links for the text, as I do with most other plays.

Cheers

is that all my lines and done correctly?
Hi Elaine

All readings are PL OK except Act 3 of the Servant, where the following corrections are required:

At 0:28
you read:
They have you denied him.
Instead of:
They have all denied him.
There is a misprint in OSS - the third word in the sentence should be “all.”

At 0:42
Your read;
he crossed himself by tee
Instead of:
he crossed himself by 't
“by ‘t” is a contraction of “by it” and should be pronounced like “bite”

The introductions should read “(Character) read by Elaine Webb” eg. “Servant, read by Elaine Webb”. We need this for the Dramatis Personae.

I would suggest you check out the quality of your microphone. The Plot Spectrum on Audacity shows the top of the frequency range is only about 8k - for good reproduction it should be not less than 12 k. The range on good quality podcasting microphones extends up to at least 16 K.

Cheers

Hi Marty and ChyAnne

Great readings.

Both Messenger readings are PL OK.

Just two small corrections required for the Page

In the lines starting at 0:14
How dost thou, Apemantus?
Prithee, Apemantus
Apemantus should be pronounced "ah-pay-man-toos"
Otherwise OK.

I noticed the occasional plosive - not enough to mar the recordings significantly, but still an issue that should be addressed. If you are unable to eliminate them with microphone placement, it might be worth considering acquiring or making a pop filter. I have found that a couple of my microphones sound much better with one of these little gadgets.

Well done.

Cheers

Corrected version uploaded, I hope: this time it was my own inadvertence, not OSS's fault at all.

Thanks Algy,

I think we are going to do the recordings over using a pop filter. Found a great video on youtube on how to make one using an embroidery hoop. That will be our project for today.

Thanks Barty

Timon's stormy Act 3 is now PL OK.

I think a pop filter is a very useful device. I was lazy - I went out and bought one.

Readings, although brief, were brilliant too. A pity that nasty Phrynia didn't have more lines, so that you could really let fly.

Cheers

Marty 8-)
Thank you both

Readings are excellent - and pop free.

Unfortunately, there is an error in the OSS text for the Messenger in Act 5 Scene 2. The opening line should read:
I have spoke the least.

Unfortunately the OSS text for this play is riddled with errors.

Once the correction for the messenger in Act 5 is made all readings will be PL OK.

Cheers
