Thistlechick, you don't have enough to do and this was something else that I had been wanting to read. I should be studying for my CFRN, but this is as good a way to procrastinate as any other!

Had downloaded it thinking it was much longer and might make a good solo book read. Was going to have to figure out how to properly start and stop chapters. Turns out it's only 14 minutes from intro to end.

Hey there,

Okay, I've just finished The Music of Erich Zann by H.P. Lovecraft for this collection:

Recording: http://www.dropload.com/redeem.php?t=9356a4b92f27352f9a63162312ebc738

Source: http://dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/themusicoferichzann.htm

I had to use DropLoad for this because JustSendIt decided to reset before the file was uploaded.

Oh, and if someone could change the tag to read LibriVox Short Stories Vol. 007? For some reason I labeled it Vol. 14.

Enjoy.

WhiteFalcon,

Your reading is very nice... but there are a couple of things that need to happen before we can add your recording to the Librivox catalog.

1. We need to have the standard LibriVox disclaimer added to the beginning of the recording. (See initial post of this thread)

2. We need to have the standard LibriVox ending statement added to the end of the recording. (See initial post of this thread)

3. We need to have you include a statement (either at the beginning or the end of the recording) to the effect of "Music created by [your name] and is in the public domain." (More about music and Librivox recordings here: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/MusicRules )

4. While the music is very cool... it is a bit loud and distracts from your reading... is it possible for you to lower the volume on the music?

As far as we can tell, this story is in the Public Domain... SmokestackJones has done some research for us on which stories of Lovecraft are in the public domain... you can see the list here: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3513

Let me know if you have any additional questions =)

WhiteFalcon wrote:Hello there,

this is a re-post as the first time I posted it on the wrong thread.

I have recorded two stories by the great horror writer Howard P. Lovecraft and tried to enrich them with short pieces of my home-made music.
The simple music is made solely by me and is therefore public domain now, too.

There are two things to mention, though.

Firstly, I believe the stories ARE public domain. As far as I have been able to find the information on the internet, they seem to be.
Secondly, I am no native speaker. I am from the Czech Republic and have never even been in any english speaking country. I like the language a lot albeit my poor pronounciation might hint otherwise. I hope you will be able to bear with my voice and enjoy the intriguing old stories.

The first one is uploaded, the link should appear below. If there is any interest, the second one will follow.

Cheers

http://data1.edisk.cz/stahni/30765/Lovecraft_HP_-_The_terrible_old_man.mp3_8.66MB.html (wait 25 seconds and click on the green button with "STAHNOUT SOUBOR" written on it, the download will begin instantly).

Thanks to Starlite's message I can include the necessary info:

Hello thistlechick,

I agree that the musis is too loud in places, but as I no longer have the speech and sounds separately, only this one mp3 file, I suppose it will be best not to add it to LibriVox. Now I know what is needed so when I get to recording another story, I will follow the rules from the outset.
Thanks for lettin me know about the necessities :)

Cheers

Well, here's another one. I'm afraid I went and added Yet Another Amontillado to the mix (this brings Librivox up to three, but in my defense, I didn't know about the second one when I did this). Since you just published an Amontillado in vol 6, you can delay this one if you like.

I'm not 100% happy with the characterizations, but I finally decided to stop fiddling; it's a first time out, after all. Let me know what needs changing. May be a touch quiet; hard to tell since I don't have that many standards of comparison.

There are never too many versions... we're happy to have your version too =) ... I like your voices in this piece... even if you're not completely happy with it, I think it's super! =)

How would you like your name to appear on the catalog page? do you have a personal url you would like included? =)

Ah, yes, it can be tricky once the tracks are merged together.... but we're glad to have you joining us with your future recordings =)

Ma'am, "Victor B. Putz" should do just fine for the name, and I suppose the url could be http://www.nyx.net/~vputz/librivox--nothing really there right now, but I can always throw up an index.html so it looks all nice at some point.

I got a phone call from my ISP (a small community ISP). Turns out I am in violation of server policy, which allows 5MB per user. It seems that my files are not only exceeding my allowance somewhat (over 37 times allowed!) but the traffic for the files has become THE BIGGEST bandwidth use on the server!

As of today, the files will be taken down, and reposted through USENDIT.

If there is any problem, a need to resend, etc. . . . just drop me an e-mail.

John: Thanks for the update =)

Nidhogg: Thanks for the story. Sounds great! =)

szparker: Thanks for the story. Sounds great! ... some technical notes:

- The volume starts out good, but then by the end it is so quiet I cannot increase the volume on my audio player high enough to hear you. Did you change how you were recording part way through? You might want to see if you can look at the waveform for the entire file, select the part that is smaller and increase the volume with the Amplify feature to match the louder part. Let me know if you need more help with this =)

- In the future, please include the ID3 tags and the correct file naming scheme (info in the first post of the thread ... ID3 How-to here: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/WhatIsID3 )

- How would you like your name to appear on the catalog page? do you have a url you would like to include? =)
